Broken on first use on 530 chain EK

Retrieval: Worked fine the first time, the pin was pressed but the mounting bar bent in the process. The 2nd time also worked, although this time the stick broke into 2 parts (thicker than the 1st) Flow: complete garbage, the anvil part went into the pen like plasticine. Totally ineffective for riveting, hasn't even been used.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not bad but...

Complete scrap for tools and gear

I bought this to rivet the Masterlink to my Ducati chain. I can't comment on how or if this tool breaks the old chain, but I can comment on how it breaks when trying to install a new one. The pins you use to push the rivet apart are literally glued into the socket. They break at the slightest pressure. I tried all 3 pin sizes and broke them all but my masterlink was still not fixed. Spend a little more for a better set. I ended up buying another one for $10 which worked great.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Expensive

Poor quality good for tools and equipment

I was disappointed with this chain tool because it was very poorly made. Bought this to replace the chain on my Yamaha and ended up ruining my new master link. The internal threads of the large and small studs are not concentric. The spout makes it impossible to use any of the pens as the tip of the pen will just roll around when you try to apply pressure causing the pens to bend. Also, it looks like the rivet flare tool is made out of some kind of unhardened stainless steel. When I tried to…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Best value for money

Arrived early and well packaged. A detail is missing that would make riveting a lot easier, but is still doable. Used to rivet a 530 chain on a 2007 R1. I don't know how people break these tools because if you try that hard, you're doing it wrong. I recommend lubricating the threads of this tool to make the job easier. If part of the pressure plate was missing I would give it 5 stars but other than that it's the best value for money. You can pay $100 for a good quality tool, but all you get are

Pros
  • Everything is great!
Cons
  • Long delivery time

It works but probably only once

I used this to attach a chain to a vfr800. I lubricated the tool well before use. The tool worked as expected, but I noticed that the chain riveting tool part looked almost worn by the time I was done with it. My chain is fine since I installed it on my bike, but you need to buy another piece to rivet another chain. I don't think I would recommend that if you have a bike you change the chain from time to time and it would be difficult to keep buying one of these tools. I would say that it is…

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Good enough it needs lubrication to avoid damaging the tool

This tool works well enough for a 525 chain. I have a Smith circuit breaker so I didn't use this tool to break the chain I was able to mount the rivet link and the tool held up perfectly. Adapter and damage it, the threads also had to be additionally lubricated for smooth operation. One thing I didn't like is that the tool doesn't have an adjustment plate for the back of the chain to align the tool when the chain plate is slid onto the pins. I had to guess if it was properly aligned and often…
