Great Kayak Rack

This is the second pair of shelves I have bought. We installed them to the original crossbars on my daughter's 2008 Ford Escape using the shorter bolts provided, and they work great for towing one of her two kayaks. These racks fold down when not in use, although they should be removed before washing the car.

Rusts quickly, but works

Does what it's supposed to do, although I've only had it for just over 3 weeks. Rust is already dripping onto my roof from the screw holes on the pipes. My luggage rack has been used and abused for years and there is no rust on it. I want you to choose to get it. Pour some protective paint into the pipes (I used black enamel) and remove the rust spots.

Pros
  • Dope 🔥

  • So far so good

J-Bar folds away when not in use - nice feature and great price

They're not that fun to assemble and set up (it's a bit of a chore), but once you set them up they you can "forget them". I love that they can be folded along the roofline when not in use. They are tubular steel and not what I would call "rock hard" but I find them strong enough for regular use with my 11ft 42lb kayak.

  • Very good price

Rust in two weeks. The tinted roof of my car.

I just returned this item. Worked fine for a kayak but after two weeks on my Subaru Outback roof rack it started to rust. The bolts, nuts and washers started to rust and I got rust spots on the roof of my car. Others had the same issue, but I ignored their warnings, thinking the manufacturer had already fixed the issue. They have not. Remember that rust has been reported by many other customers.

Pros
  • Hard wearing finish
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Better than I expected at this price

Fits in my streamlined Subaru/Thule trunk although the mounting bolts are slightly longer and the rubber grommets only grip the bar at the ends, not the center of the steel pillar mounting plate. While it appears to be firmly connected to the handlebars, the surface area providing traction isn't as great if your car has faired handlebars. Should be fine for short trips to a lake or pond, but I wouldn't go cross-country kayaking at highway speeds. You get what you pay for and it's still a pretty

  • Contact Seller

I needed a foldable rack for some infrequent kayak transport, so I couldn't justify spending nearly $200 on branded versions. I chose them after reading a lot of Revain reviews and thinking they sound cheap but not too cheap. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. They were well packaged, much heavier than I expected for $50 (I bought 2 packs for $99). It came with webbing straps, which I also didn't expect. The big benefit would be how it holds up to the weather but I'm not worried…

Broken on the Autobahn

The metal plate holding the rack to the roof rack broke while driving down the Autobahn at 60mph on a windless day. I want to request a refund but I can't contact anyone. I've only had them for a few months and I'm VERY disappointed. Do not buy if you value your boat and/or safety on the road.****UPDATE**** Even though Revain's refund period for this product has passed, I was able to (several) deal with the shipping company with no problems Contact them and they sent me a shipping label and…

Love it! Multiple uses

I have had several fixed kayak stands in the past and they worked very well. But I scratched the roof of my garage and had to stop several times to remove it because the car didn't fit in city parking lots. With these mounts I don't have to worry anymore! Because of the way they fold and provide additional surfaces to attach items to, they also seem very handy for transporting furniture and other odd-shaped items. Finally, since they fold fairly flat, they don't prevent me from tying large…

Poorly designed and unreliable

Whoever designed this should lose their engineering degree. Here's what you're signing up for: an annoying rig with vague instructions and extra detail, exposed metal studs pointing straight at your paintwork, and a single bar mount held on with just plastic nuts. The steering wheel engages with plastic prongs that don't seem to hold up to repeated use. If any part of this thing fails, you're left with nothing but straps, thoughts, and prayers holding the kayak to the roof of your car. Maybe…
