Practical: The ABN Universal Ball Joint Separator – Remover Tool for Separating Arms, Tie Rods, and Ball Joints on Cars, Trucks, ATVs is designed specifically for quick and easy separation of a vehicle’s ball joint from the spindle support arm. Versatile: Universal; For use on both American domestic and European imported/foreign vehicles; For cars, trucks, and even ATVs. Durable: Constructed from commercial-strength cast steel with hardened steel pivot pin and jackscrew for regular shop use. Easy to Use: Slip the forked end between the boot and metal attachment point, be sure the pivot finger is squarely on the threaded end, and tightening the bolt until you have a good amount of resistance; Tap the attachment point and or the finger with a hammer and tighten some more and tap again; When the stud comes loose, it will be all at once as the tool falls free and you will hear a “pop”. Specifications: 1-1/8" and 2-1/8" (30mm and 56mm) maximum opening capacity; Accepts 3/4" sockets or wrenches; 4/5" (20mm) fork opening; 9/10” (48mm) adjustable height; Can be adjusted to 2 sizes for wider working areas and to accommodate various sizes and vehicles; Scissors-type design.

Fits and works great on my 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer ES

I was surprised that I couldn't remove the tie rod end on my Lancer without tools. I tried peeping, hitting with a hammer or a blowtorch - it was all as freely as I wanted with no risk of damaging things. I worked professionally on cars for a few years in my teens and have done this repair before. Luckily, this tool required very little effort from my 10" ratchet on this ball joint cage before the tie rod end popped out. This puller will fit your car before ordering.

Works like a champ!

I needed a well made and reliable tool to remove tie rods on my '91 Mercedes. I tried the OEM type pictured in this post and found it to be ill-suited to the job. It didn't fit properly on the ball joint and slipped a few times when I tried to tighten it. I saw a video showing a tool like ABN's universal ball joint cage and decided to give it a try. Works very well with steering and suspension tools

This tool worked great for removing the tie rod ends and lower ball joints without damaging the grease fittings. I only had to replace the ball joint so without destroying the grease fittings on the tie rods it was cheaper and saved a lot of time because I could just reinstall them. The tool is very easy to use, just insert the forked end between the boot and the metal attachment point, then make sure the pivot is square on the threaded end and start tightening the bolt.
