2008 Silverado with Service Trailer Brake Indicator. Remove the spare wheel, 3.10mm screws, it is on top of the brake assembly. Unscrew the 3 torx screws and slide the assembly to access the relay screws. Two more torxes, remove the old one and connect the new one. Assemble and the light should be off. It took 20 minutes, cost $450 from dealers, and here's just the price of the part.

I received a "Service Trailer Brake System" warning on my 2010 Silverado LT 1500 2WD. I have never towed a trailer with this truck and have from the start. This part was the perfect solution. I also replaced the fuse J under the hood as a precaution. I found a YouTube video online that shows exactly where the part and fuse is located.

The 2013 Sierra 2500 HD had intermittent trailer braking and a warning horn, even without a trailer. I had to drop the spare tire and remove the metal plate containing that and another electrical assembly. Plugged it in, installed it on the platter, replaced the platter and spare tire, and presto! no more annoying dashboard lights. Total time about an hour.

I saved over $100 making it myself. 08 2500HD Silverado. Relay in the left rear wheel arch on the inside of the truck frame. Once I found it, it took about 15 minutes to install. Happy camper. Ordered a part for the second time. Not the part's fault, but where GM placed the connection. Above the L-wheel where dirt, mud and water can contaminate the electronic connection. I will try to seal the connection with tape to prevent contamination of the elements.

I have a 2010 Silverado 2500HD. I had an error code on the "Service Trailer Breakdown System" dashboard. I replaced this part and the code was gone after driving the truck a few more cycles. On my truck it was on the inside of the frame next to the left rear wheel. The videos I saw said it should be above the spare tire. The bolts were accessible from the wheel arch and there was no need to remove the spare tire to access them.

I will have another one on hand. Fixed system error message. The dealer could not identify the problem. I told them to install/replace this part. Problem and error message fixed. It seems (by their admission) that the tech team isn't trained in great detail on the OEM-installed towing system. Trial and error is their main source. I am keeping another one for future use. either mine or someone i know. Save lots of time by having this on standby.

I either do it right or I don't do it at all, but GM's idiocy is too strong. On the Suburban, the relay is located just in front of the spare tire, in the center of the car, on top of the controller. They mounted it with two screws from the top, so you can NEVER just swap the relay from under the car, EVER. To remove the original relay you will need to pull out the controller and all the brackets so you can access these screws. A simple alternative is to simply unplug the old relay, plug in the

I'm very glad it worked. This stupid service trailer braking system has been bugging me for months, although the trailer lights and brakes still work fine, it chimed every time I started the truck. I had no idea where to look for the problem. People talk about measuring voltages, checking this and that, blah blah blah. Someone else says swap the little relay for $15 and like magic it will fix itself. For the record, the relay looked fine, no idea why it wasn't working. The exchange took only 15
