A knowledgeable trainer friend told me that silica gel helps with dehydration and prevents abscesses. Hard to find without breaking the bank. My horse doesn't like it very much but he eats it with grain when it gets wet. His hooves have grown beautifully in the 6 weeks since I've had them. This product smells like beer, is bitter and when tested on many horses with different eating habits, none of them liked it.
