I prefer hot pressed watercolor paper because its texture is much smoother and doesn't get in the way. It also retains its structure much better than with cold pressing, even with moderate brushing.

I really enjoy using the block. However, you have to be careful not to overload it with water. Better than sticking paper to a board. I usually play around with tape, putting it on and taking it off and trying to reuse it to make it easier to just start painting. A trifle for a clumsy, but every ease makes drawing more fun.

If this is your first time getting serious about watercolor paints, this paper should be hot and cold pressed next. It resists doodling and light erasing (use an eraser to erase the size), it's of a high standard, it takes layers of paint well and will give your piece either a slightly washed out finish or deep and vibrant colours. . I can take it with me in my travel bag and pursue my hobby anywhere. I like this hot pressed version as I make ink drawings colored with watercolors. I don't have to wet the paper and tape it, the pad keeps the paper in perfect shape even when wet.
