Astro Pneumatic Tool 4980 0.498" Shank Heavy-Duty Air Hammer/Riveter Review

This thing is a beast. Eric O South Main Auto gave me this tool and I had to wait a month and a half to get it, but it was worth the wait. you need good air pressure behind it, but it saves sooo much time. a little pricey but good tools are worth it.

So far so good, although it's stronger than my old air hammer, it's easier to control. A HUGE downside is that it's almost impossible to find bits for it (some say you can use regular .401 bits, but I wouldn't recommend these). Therefore, you have to order them online. I also recommend getting an Astros keyless chuck, which makes bit changing easier.

Eric O from South Main Auto put me on Big Nasty. When my Dodge Ram 2500 pickup's front hub got stuck, I knew what tool to use. The hub was so stuck that even "Big Nastya" needed help. As soon as I loosened the hub, Big Nastya quickly broke up. The Big Nasty has the power of 3-4 cheap air hammers and is a welcome addition to my toolset.

Lord I love this tool. Hits VERY hard. If like me you live in the rust belt and work with suspension and brakes, this might be perfect for you. This tool makes rusty work fun because it saves you the trouble of wondering if you can get that rotor off the hub or if you can separate those two stuck suspension pieces. I smile every time I use this thing. It's really cool and a lot of fun.

Tons of power. This thing has humiliated my colleague's snap-on air hammers many times. My only complaint is that it doesn't have much throttle on the trigger. It gets big and it gets obnoxious or it doesn't work. Another thing I don't like, while not a direct criticism of the tool, is the lack of available bit sizes.
