Not Virtualization Ready (VFIO/IOMMU)

I bought this board for use in a virtualization/hypervisor server because it has two NICs and it's cheaper than the professional versions. Start the Proxmox hypervisor. I've set up a few of these servers so I'm fairly familiar with the ins and outs of setting something up, but I just couldn't get this board to work. All relevant settings in the BIOS were enabled, CPU virtualization, IOMMU etc. As a last resort I even tried a patched ACS kernel. Looks like a bug or something in the BIOS is not…

Cons
  • Anything I can add

Board is a little pricey but includes the latest technologies - PCIe 4.0, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 6, 2, 5G Ethernet and a few SATA ports. If you are a pure gamer the board may seem overpriced and therefore more expensive than it should be, but if you are a developer and power user this really is the place. I can game at the highest level, develop cutting-edge tech with PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives, and load a bunch of clunky mechanics for all my data-heavy needs (already 24TB). Short answer: If you're a…

Amazing Value: Internals

Everything just works here. This was an upgrade from my previous Gigabyte B350 board, which for some reason couldn't support the 64GB of RAM listed in the specs (couldn't even support more than 32). This board is phenomenal: 1) AX WiFi chipset easily $502) Sonar sound chipset easily $603) 2.5Gb and 1Gb ethernet port/chipset easily $100 (can use two ports to charge pfSense and den fastest/secure/custom router Savings of $300-$500 if you're willing to bother to set it up) 4) True nvme ports that…

Works great: Computer and accessories

Bought this with my new 3800x. Arrived 2 days later and my 3800x arrived 2 days early so I had to set everything up over the weekend. From the installation to the BIOS setup, everything went smoothly. The RGB lighting looks great, although some of it is completely blocked by my graphics card. I don't know why they put it there and not somewhere more prominent. A few tips: I didn't have to update the bios on install and didn't have to install a fresh Windows 10, which was nice. After logging…

Reliability issues

Bought 2 of these boards for my sons for Christmas. Along with 3900x processors, Corsair 32GB 3200MHz memory kits, Corsair H115i cooling, 1TB 970 plus M.2 drives, Lian Li cases, 9 in total. One board had 04xx bios, the other had 10xx bios . Both looked good. Both systems updated to the latest BIOS 1405. Both updates were performed via USB and completed successfully without incident. One board could no longer recognize boot devices, although both boards appeared in the mail and were even able to

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Some bugs

I'm still working on the curves.

As one of the first users, I expected growth problems. I'm still having an issue where the motherboard won't let me boot into the BIOS with a displayport cable, only with HDMI. Also, still try to find out the cause of the slow startup problem even if "Fast Startup" is enabled. The boot time via SATA SSD is about 45 seconds. Finally, a really weird Lightingservices bug where some game anti-cheat programs detect AURA lighting on motherboards as a game cheat. no i'm not kidding. I had to force…

  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Great board, bad software

I paired this with an R7 2700x to replace my old FX9590 and Asus M5A99FX Pro. Build quality seems really good, everything felt solid and was built to tight tolerances. After putting everything together (using a Gskill TridentZ Neo 32GB 3200 16D) the first boot was successful and the BIOS entered. The BIOS is feature rich and seems easy to use if you're used to the BIOS on previous Asus boards. The second boot ran into some problems, none of my nvme disks were recognized; I used 2 in the slots…
