One-way valve spring compressor? With a bent strut as provided

did I manage to compress the springs on the cylinder head alfa romeo 2.0 1973? Yes. Did this tool damage the head or valves? no, it doesn't look like it. Was this tool cheap and in my hands within two days? Yes. The problem is that the large C mount/clamp deformed during the work it was designed for. this is not good. It's bent so badly that it no longer fits in the case it was installed in. This also means that force is being applied to either the valve face or the retainer (or both) at an…

Complete garbage. First use unsuccessful.

I'm a fairly experienced mechanic. I don't expect much from these cheap tools either. However, this product makes Harbor Freight look like Snap-On. I tried to remove the valve spring from the motorcycle head. I squeezed it halfway and wondered why the tool was trying to slide off the top of the pen. In the attached photos you can see that the arm is bent simply by being screwed on. In the second picture you can see that the tool no longer fits in the storage box. This was tightened by hand…

Great idea gone

Great idea for removing valve springs from a cylinder head that has already been removed. The idea is to press on opposite ends of the same valve to remove the retainers, spring and valve cap and of course the valve itself. The first problem is that there is no "button" to protect the valve surface from tool scratches. I had to invent it so as not to damage the surface of the valve. The second issue I had was valve spring compression sizing. Mine was a bit too big for the instrument, so it kept

It works, but it's a pain.

I bought this because my good valve spring compressor gave up the ghost after 15 years of faithful service and my reserve didn't work on the heads I rebuilt. This one was cheap and had lots of adapters. Putting it together wasn't difficult, just choose the size of the collet, attach the pusher screws and find something to attach it to the valve as the point on the pusher could damage it. I used a flathead puller. The variety of collets is nice, but they tend to move along the latch and can…

This tool is great for my Toyota 5EFE

This tool is great for my Toyota 5EFE. A few complaints mentioned in other reviews are the lack of a scratch-resistant piece to fit inside the combustion chamber and the fact that there is nothing to prevent the handle from falling out during use. As shown in my photos, I resolved each of these issues with the parts I had. The old stabilizer bushing made a good cushion for the valve face and I put a couple pieces of orange silicone on the handle to hold it in place in the tool. (I'm not sure…

You get what you pay for

I needed this tool to reinstall the valve springs on my '71 VW Bus. I already removed them with the O'Reilly loaner tool which did the job. But I wanted something with better reinstallation accessibility to have better access to the valve retainer grooves. When I received the compressor, I immediately noticed that the tooling was not ready. Most adapters, as well as the large C-clamp, had burrs and metal shavings. After retooling my new tool, I used it to get the job done. First, I'm very glad…
