RV Hot Water Thermostats

I've changed the way my old water heater works. Rather than supplying all of the power for the electrical element through the thermostats, I connected a 12 volt relay that has a 120 volt side and the 12 volt side through the thermostats and the 120 volt side with the heater connects. This works great and extends the life of the thermostats.

Warning, replacing the sensors is very difficult

Externally, replacing temperature sensors looks very simple. Well it isn't. Try sliding the small clear plastic yoke under the three tabs on the water heater and turning while the spring pushes on the yoke. Maybe there's a trick I'd like to post. After finally installing them an hour later, I thought maybe a bit of silicone spray on the studs would have helped. I do not know.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Very expensive

defective thermostats

The thermostats installed and the water heater worked for about three weeks. I contacted the seller for a replacement and they offered to bridge it. I did and the water heater came on, proving the stats were faulty. If I left the jumper connected, the water heater would overheat and trip the safety valve. I disabled them and asked the seller to replace them with no response. I bought another set and my kettle works perfectly.

Easy installation. The water heater works again.

This ECO and T-Stat kit was just what I needed for my 6 gallon Atwood water heater. The kit I received came with a new label replacing the old one and was packaged in the correct position on the label so I had a good idea of which sensor went where before opening it. If there is any confusion, remember that the higher temperature sensor is for the ECO (emergency shutdown) and not the thermostat. It took less than ten minutes to swap out both sensors and with the new PT relief valve my unit was…

My old Atwood RV water heater works again

I put a kit in my friend's water heater and one in mine. Both work great. Including 2 thermostats. The one on the right with brown wires turns off the flame when the water temperature reaches 60 degrees Celsius. ECO (Emergency Shutdown) goes to the left and connects to the red wires. This is just for your protection in case the 60 degree Tstat fails. They're held in place by a notched plastic disc that you can rotate until you insert or remove tstats. It's easiest to remove the exhaust trim to…

Perfect kit for use on an atwood gc10a-4e water heater

worked on repairing an atwood gc10a-4e water heater. I installed them in about 15 minutes. It comes with tank mounted sensors and a foam cap. I couldn't be happier. They take a while to fit into their respective holes, but once installed they work great. Don't forget to place the t-stat so that the smaller electrical protrusions on the right side are facing the heater from the outside. A quick way to install them is to remove the old sensor and gently pry outward on the three tabs on the tank…

Pros
  • nice item
Cons
  • don't really like it everything is fine

They worked just like the originals on our 1999 IT. Before the primary failed and overheating controlled the temperature of the tank. Which resulted in very hot water. Our RV with hot water tank model G6A-8E. Installation was easy enough. It actually took longer to remove the old adhesive than to apply the new one. Be careful when installing them. They are in a blister pack on a new adhesive pad, just as they should be mounted. The lower labeled thermostat moves to the right as you look at it…

This kit fixed my water heater and how to tell what is ECO or thermostat.

My water heater board has a green LED that does not light and gas and electricity do not work when on. Just before it stopped working I had to wiggle the thermal switch to get it to work, but that only worked twice, after which the light never came on again when the heater stopped working. This kit included instructions for replacing the thermostat and ECO (emergency switch). However, it was not specified which part was which. The temperature is displayed on the thermostat and ECO in degrees…

pack saved. on thermostats, elements and parts for water heaters

About a half hour past my time I got back to work. I didn't pay a service fee or a mechanic. If you want to know if it's a problem if your water heater won't fire, simply connect the two terminals of each of these temperature sensors in turn. If the water heater caught fire, one or both cracked, then this set will solve your problem. DO NOT operate the water heater with jumpers for a long period of time. Without them it will overheat. For testing and a few minutes of work, it won't hurt. I…
