Works great with my Kreg Pocket Hole Joinery System

I have had the Kreg pocket hole system for many years. So the screwdriver portion of the kit is a bit rounded, but still functional for now. I figured it would be best to get a backup set. The most popular beat is usually short. It will be a long time to determine if they are as good as the ones that come with the kit. All I know is that they work.

Pros
  • Manufactured from high quality S2 alloy steel, heat treated for increased strength, hardness and long life.
Cons
  • Appearance

I sometimes use a knockout tool when working with wood. The specialty screws for this jig use a #2 square shank bit, making them very handy for this purpose. 3 bits come with #2 square bits in lengths of 2", 4" and 6". They are all made from S2 steel and will fit any 1/4" hex tool. The bits are marked and the tips are correctly shaped, see 2 pictures. This is a good value #2 square drive bit. I recommend this AUTOTOOLHOME Brand 3 Pack #2 Square Drive Bit Set. I hope you found the information…

Not Kreg quality finish and fit

They fit Kreg square head screws. Tested - the magnets work, the drive heads fit and I was able to pull the screw out and intentionally overtighten where the wood was damaged and the bit wouldn't slip off. I'm not sure about the durability as I haven't used it much. They look a little rough after editing, with visible horizontal grooves at the tip where it should have been smooth. The fit and smoothness are definitely not as good as the Kreg. Will they work? Yes. Will I recommend you? Well…

Pros
  • Often used in pocket gauges, ideal for pocket hole screws

Inexpensive long square shank bits

L. Robertson, who invented and patented the square shank screw, got Ford to use Phillips head screws in their first manufacturing operations . This in turn led to the widespread use of Phillips screws in the United States. For those of us who accidentally created a lot of "guard” bolts—bolts that can't be removed without a puller and drill—wish Ford and Robertson didn't get along better. Robertson's patent expired in 1964 and square drive screws are becoming increasingly available here. They…
