Ignore most negative reviews.

I was replacing a 12 year old 802.11b wireless router, so I spent a few days surfing online to find what I thought was the best router for the money. We have a variety of computers in our house, from a 10 year old Windows ME desktop to several 1 year old XP and Windows 7. We even have a brand new all-in-one wireless. Our wireless cards were all of 802.11b, g and n. This router accepted them all and everything works perfectly. We went from a 2.5k download to 17k on Windows 7. I even get 8K on…

Great router for basic home use

**Updated January 2, 2012** A new firmware version, 1.00.46, has just been released on the Belkin website. After applying this update, the intermittent slowdown mentioned in the overview below seems to be resolved. However, there is no DHCP reservation yet. **Original review** I have a 2000 sqm apartment. ft. We are a very close-knit family, we have many devices and a large reliance on the internet. My goals were: to have full WiFi coverage in the house that would allow me to take full…

IP cannot be updated! in Routers

Okay I thought I needed a MIMO router so I decided to buy one to replace my very stable Dlink DIR-655. I have found that the router loses connection to my cable modem (Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0) almost once a week and the amber LED on the router lights up. I turn everything off and on (modem and router). I usually expect this to update the IP address and reconnect me to the internet. After doing this a few times, the router still didn't get an IP address and the yellow light stayed…

Easy to set up, bad VOIP, second area is practically useless

Very easy to set up, seems to work well. However, dual band is basically useless. The alternative band has such poor range that you can only use it within 10 feet of the router, beyond that the signal is too weak and unreliable. Also if you use VOIP on ANY of the bands it's really patchy. For example, connecting your cell phone to use home Wi-Fi instead of a cellular signal or a true home internet voice protocol (internet phone) will not work properly. I think what happens is that this router…

Great router, no disconnects

Bought to replace ASUS RT-65R. This router was fast and had good range, but for some reason I would lose internet connection every week or two and I had to jump through a few hoops to get it back on. Eventually I got fed up and searched for routers on Smallnetbuilder and found this one had good range and 2.4GHz speed (I don't care about other things or 5GHz). This one was reliable for a month (I don't use self-repair), it took a reboot, but I can't be sure it wasn't my ISP. The main thing was…

Exactly what I dreamed of

So far this router has been great. I used to have 3 different routers. I have a cable modem and with previous routers I usually had to reset them at least twice a day. I used to think it was the cable company's fault because how did this ever happen with all my previous routers? But then I bought this and the connection was great. I would only reset it twice in 3 weeks. The best feature is the hard drive connection and the ability to share it with all computers on the network. It also has a…

Overheated. not well done. There is no heatsink on the main chip.

Worked great for a while, then broke down every now and then. A power cycle will get it working again or just wait a bit. I noticed that the case was quite warm (in an air conditioned room) and getting warmer. Smoked today. Dead. Doesn't start, just flashes blue and goes out. Since the warranty period had already expired, I opened it. The CPU had no heatsink and was /burned/ hot. About 180'F. Very (very) crappy design. This high-speed processor REQUIRES a heatsink. If you're a techie and have a

Stay away from this junk

I'm an experienced network engineer by trade, so it's unlikely that my problems with this are due to user error. It was a big mistake to buy this product. I bought this for my home network to replace my old Linksys WRT54G router to take advantage of newer wireless technologies. This router is way cheaper than Linksys with similar features and I thought Belkin was a pretty good name so I bought it. Big mistake. Installation was no problem, very easy. I love the built-in website filter and guest…

Great product, best in the Computers & Accessories category

I used a Linksys router before purchasing this Belkins and setting up the Linksys was a nightmare including trying to hire a foreign tech support person understand and deal with it. In the end he advised me to call the manufacturer of my laptop. I myself solved problems with the Internet, and especially with searching the forum. I've never come to terms with the idea of not having reliable tech support to help me when something goes wrong with Linksys. So I started looking for options and ended

I bought four, two of them were broken

I received this router on August 19, 2014 and it stopped working 10 days ago. I called tech support and my agony began. Long story short, I've spent many hours on my phone and my router is still not working. I bought a total of four routers for my property and two of them gave me problems. Worst of all, Belkin doesn't actually have maintenance, instead hiring an outside company to do it. These people don't care about problems with your router, they just want your money in exchange for an…
