Does what it's supposed to do

Compact and ready to use. I added +5V and the serial stream started immediately. They also have software on their website that makes scoring easy.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • I can't fault that, everything is fine

Excellent and stable sensor to use in Arduino array.

Excellent sensor - very accurate and works well with the Arduino platform. Collect a wide range of lidars. Make sure to get an update to update i2c connections.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Exchange availability

Fun LIDAR device for security and surveillance

I installed this on a 2 axis servo and then connected it to the FPGA for scanning. The FPGA sends the XY angles along with the LIDAR packets to my computer where I process them in C++ and show them using Jet coding. full of fun

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Some little things

Doesn't work with I2C.

I have done many projects with Arduino modules and am very familiar with the I2C protocol. This TF Luna module does not work with I2C. While there is a way to do this, no documentation I could find says it's just a serial protocol using TX, RX with a software serial interface. It won't work for the project I have in mind. And yes, the SDA and SDL lines have 4.7K pullups, in case you're wondering.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Only available in black

Works exactly as it should.

What's not to like? For what it is, it's amazing (especially considering something like this was worth it just a few years ago). It's small, easy to connect, and works well. Gives a fairly accurate measurement. As with most of these components, the code you use is everything. If you take the time to set it up properly, it will return data that can be used for magical things. A second unit is acquired to hack the 3D scanning lidar to create a point cloud on the Pixhawk rover (ex-military Markbot

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
