All in all, a very good fax machine for my doctor's office

Overall, a very good fax machine for my office (I don't use the other features) But it has a problem - it sometimes hangs in RECEPTION mode and until I realize this and press the DELETE button, the phone line is busy and I cannot receive any important faxes.

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • I don't like it that much, it's ok

Great printer for fine paper, 2.75 " x 6.0 " receipts

I have had the same machine for over 10 years. I use it to print my personal 2.75 x 6.0 checks. The manual feed tray stopped feeding properly, so I ordered a replacement. Not many printers print on paper of this size. This is a laser printer that does an excellent job of printing.

Pros
  • Free for educational institutions
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Brother Laser Multifunction Center MFC-8220 - used

LOTS of paper jams - my old 4550 worked better. I like the bottom tray, it collects less dust, but I think it might be related to my paper jams. If I had to use it often, I wouldn't want to use it at all. When he put in the extra effort he broke part of the crescent, seems to be doing better without it. Did I mention LOTS of paper jams? eats a lot of paper When it arrived the plastic on the back was broken - it doesn't seem to affect function. I'm James Elmer :-)

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Product Overview Brother MFC-8220

My Brother MFC-8220 arrived on time. The transaction went smoothly as usual. I love the PayPal payment process. The MFC-8220 installation process was easy and I had no trouble setting it up on my computer. Since I don't need to print anything in color, I prefer laser printing (black and white) because it produces many more copies per toner cartridge than printers that print in color. This is the way to go if you don't need color printing. My previous printer was the MFC-8500. It lasted 9 years.

Beware of Mac compatible claims.

It does not have Wi-Fi, you need to connect your computer to the device with a fixed cable to print and scan. Scanning does not work with High Sierra. They don't support it. I called my brother 3 days after receiving my fax from Revain and they suggested I "upgrade" my fax to a different model or downgrade the software on my computer. They don't take it back in exchange, don't admit it in their ad saying the computer is Mac compatible. I have had great success with my brother in the past but…

After 7 years of intensive use I bought another

We bought the MFC 8220 in January 2004. It served the whole family as a scanner, printer, fax machine and telephone. Two kids used it in high school and college. My wife and I used it for our small business. It's my fault it broke. We thought we'd look for a new all-in-one because we thought technology had gotten better. We need all the features of the MFC 8220 and after two weeks of purchasing we have found that in all these years nothing has beaten the MFC 8220. We have purchased another MFC…

Pros
  • Very good value for money

Reliable workhorse, best printers and supplies

I am buying this to replace the same model I bought in April 2006 for $177 refurbished. An excellent workhorse. He eventually died after six tax seasons printing tax returns. Yes, he doesn't know how to convert. And it tends to have some paper jams. But it prints well and quickly. If it lasts as long as the previous one, I'll be thrilled. It works great with my professional tax software to print tax returns for my business. I have a separate inkjet printer that I can use for envelopes, color…

Agree - great car

UPDATE: February 2010 It's been almost 5 years now. I ended up buying two. After 4 years we wore out the one in the kindergarten that served as our main printing shop. The second house had much easier tasks. Still works great. Based on that experience we have become die-hard Brother fans and now own the 6490 and 8460. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I've had mine for 10 months now and it's very reliable; no problem with that. Prints the first page quickly, the display is a backlit monochrome LCD so you can…
