I have just received and assembled this item. Back then I paid more to get the color I wanted (dark cherry) but that was my choice. Despite the many bad reviews here, I decided to buy this product. I took a chance and I think I got pretty much what I expected. This entire cabinet is made from 1/2 inch thick chipboard (no MDF) and the back is regular heavy cardboard DIY furniture.
