I bought a Cobra MR F45-D VHF marine radio. It should be "GPS ready". In order for the radio to report your location, I had to purchase a $90 Cobra CM 300-005 locator. This was not mentioned in the product description. As a result, I compared this device to more expensive devices with built-in GPS. Very disappointed that this was not revealed. ***Update*** The radio turned out to be pretty good. I cleared all connections, registered the VHF MMSI number with Boat US and now my boat can send an alert with coordinates if I get into a PAN, PAN, PAN, or MAYDAY situation.
