💡 1.5HP 230V 1Phase Control Box Review

Lightning damaged something in my old control box, apparently the starter relay so I had to keep pressing the overload reset buttons to restart the pump. After replacing it with this new control unit, everything works perfectly again.

This control unit worked perfectly. My fountain stopped working after a thunderstorm. I had powered up the pressure switch and controller, but nothing came out of the unit. I ordered this control box because nobody had a 1 1/2 HP well pump box. I ordered it on Saturday evening and received the new controller on Monday morning. Amazing delivery speed.

Fast delivery and product works well. My only issue is that this device is rated for outdoor use and claims to be. flange bearing and such. However, the back of the glass is full of holes. This is the second panel I've installed in the last few years (and replaced the condenser in between) as rain got into the box and ruined the components. Indeed not for outdoor use unless the end user applies and maintains silicone in the factory vents.

The problem I had was that the reset on the control box kept working and after resetting it only worked a few seconds before it was shut down again. The capacitors in the old box were not properly tested (0 ohms). My fountain had a slightly older Franklin 1/1.5 hp control box. The starter relay coil failed in an older identical unit so I needed a replacement before the community tank was dry after 5 days. I could buy the relay myself but it would take a week. So I ordered this whole controller on Tuesday afternoon, it was shipped on Wednesday and arrived on Thursday. Thursday night I replaced the relay and ran the well pump overnight to fill the reservoir. Nobody lost water. The Franklin controller is not warranted unless installed by a Franklin certified technician. I purchased this item in early October 2020 and the main circuit breaker failed in April 2021 (less than five months old).
