Great Rice Cooker - Kitchen & Dining

This is the second Cuisinart CRC-800 8-cup rice cooker that I own. I use it regularly for a lot more than just cooking rice or quinoa (which is great). I use the basket for steaming eggs (I think this is the best way to cook hard-boiled or soft-boiled eggs), steaming vegetables, and cooking fish. It's a practical compliment to the kitchen :) Plus, it's easy to clean. The pan has to be hand washed and I just throw the basket and lid in the dishwasher. The base is simply wiped with a cloth.

Dirty and undercooked

As a Cuban, I eat rice almost every other day. I have been cooking rice since I was a child. Since I bought the rice cooker, there was only one problem with this rice cooker. Yes, he's handsome and cooks rice fast, but what's the point if he can't even get it right? The first issue I had was how messy it is. The little cap on the lid releases a ridiculous amount of residue. When you're done, the entire top of the lid will be covered with it. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if the ovenโ€ฆ

The negative reviews were correct.

This thing creates a complete mess. Now, before you start accusing me of doing something wrong to cause this, know that it worked correctly the first few times I used it. In the beginning there are no hiccups at all. All I cook is two cups of white long grain and fill it up to the "2" mark in the saucepan with water. Not a mess, I also thought that the negative reviews complaining about the mess were surely doing something wrong. Now fast forward to the 4th or 5th time I've used it. the messโ€ฆ

I wanted an all metal rice cooker Got It Great Item

I've waited and shopped for months to find not only the right price but also an all metal rice cooker. Most have cheap plastic steamers. I wouldn't pay an arm or a leg for something that's cheap and plastic isn't good for you and never lasts. I've found that not only is all of the above perfect, but the fact that it looks sharp and the steamer sits over the lid opening of the unit allows me to add a few more veggies etc than others. I just coat the inner bottom with cooking spray before leaving

I don't understand these negative reviews!

I bought this rice cooker about 3 months ago. I eat rice several times a week, as well as other grains (barley, quinoa, which I also cook in this stove). I used a rice cooker to cook all of this and there were no negative results whether it was brown rice or white rice. I use the rice to water ratio as per the package and don't usually add any fat or other ingredients - just rice and water. The only splatters I noticed were right around the steam vent on the lid, where some rice starch collects

  • Easy to read control panel

Perfect Rice! No boiling problems

Update: 10 years later it is still one of my most used household appliances. Works perfect! We use this rice cooker 2-3 times a week and it's amazing. Feel free to buy it. Will last for years. Mine is still working just as perfectly as the day I bought it. The return is worth the money! I'm very glad I didn't see the negative reviews (most of which were written over a year ago) until after I placed my order. THIS PRODUCT IS AMAZING! I followed the very simple instructions in the owner's manualโ€ฆ
