Assembly wasn’t a cakewalk and the hardest part was the locking mechanism. it is tough even for an adult and takes some getting used to. Doesn’t feel too sturdy but does the job.

Bought this to replace one of those expandable ones you lock in place.had cut it down so we could step over it but my 91 y/o MIL was coming and needed a sturdy, easy to operate gate. Was looking for a gate that would automatically close itself, since it is for the top of our stairs and should never be left open. The door swings to a close by itself but it does not latch/lock by itself.

This is a great, sturdy baby gate and the door is easy to use. The only problem we’ve run into is with installation. The instructions don’t make it clear that the black tighteners need to be facing a certain direction or else it won’t tighten all the way—it’ll get to a certain point and start clicking. The gate was easy to assemble and put up. The gate is sturdy BUT the little clasp at the top that secures the gate shut broke within the first day of use. The bottom latch still connects but now it is not as secure. For the price paid this SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE. While I use it for dogs, parents with small children this could be dangerous.

This would have been my 3rd gate we have purchased for our home. I went for black this time because it matches aesthetically but I didn't realize this version of the gate you have to screw into the wall. We are renting so the least amount of holes we can put into the wall the better. Since our other two gates we know we didn't have to screw them in we decided to return this one and other the other version. Sad because the quality looks great and the color was perfect.
