Helps maintain weight.

The strap really helps to support the weight of the bike rack. It mainly supports the up/down movement of the shock absorber with little lateral support. I reattached the strap and tightened it, but I couldn't figure out what the extra piece with the little Velcro loop was until I saw a YouTube video on how to install it. Is it really difficult for the manufacturer to provide instructions on the packaging? So 4 instead of 5 stars.

Gets the job done - carrier

Bought as an extra support for a hitch mounted bike carrier. My previous bike rack broke off while driving. I have a bike that has been converted to an e-bike, so it's a bit heavier than a regular bike. The breakage of the frame was very scary! I highly recommend using a pair of these straps on your bike rack/trailer hitch for extra support. It relieves the rack of vertical up/down loads when hitting speed bumps etc. The bike rack can fail over a longer period of time.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Great price

You will likely need these if you are using a 1.25 " bike hitch

I use two of these in combination with a Swagman bike rack that uses a 1.25" hitch on my Camry is installed. Without these straps to stabilize the load, the bikes (IMHO) swayed too much from side to side when moving. They are easy to peel off and also easy to unzip. They're also quite long, giving you a lot of ways to use them. The metal hook points are strong and covered with a durable rubber coating. Very satisfied.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Minor issues

For use with Allen Sports Deluxe 5 bike hitch carrier

I bought two of these to support the Allen Sports Deluxe 5 bike hitch carrier. Great product and easy to use with the hitch stand. Tails are easy to store. With five bikes on the tow bar, these straps take the weight when additional bikes are fitted, providing greater stability and safety when driving. The only downside, and it's a small one, was that the instructions for threading the strap were a bit vague. Just check it before you ride to make sure the strap won't accidentally come looseโ€ฆ

The best option? for cargo handling

It would be "good" if only that existed. I decided to install the support strap (actually two) INSIDE the trunk, not OVER the trunk. I want to be able to open my trunk. So I'm going to send them back (I bought two). Instead I bought FOUR heavy duty 1500 pond capacity ratchet straps for about the same price as 2 of these items. Ratchet straps are just as easy, if not easier, to use. After you've taken out the slack and rotated the ratchet once or twice, you can SEE and FEEL the tremendous amount

Pros
  • robust construction
Cons
  • unreliable

So I bought this rack mount because I have an Allen TRUNK bike rack and the included elastic strap that connects to the rack is almost useless now. I've had this stance for 6 years now and it's been hit a couple of times in bad weather causing the rubber to snap and eventually break with enough force. I saw this band because it looks almost the same as the Allen band except for the rubber band and thought it would work the same way. Of course it works perfectly (so far) and prevents the frameโ€ฆ

Pros
  • GOLS Certified
Cons
  • Requires Socket

Mandatory for bike hitch mount

I've had a three bike Thule hitch carrier in my garage for a few years that hasn't been used since I traded in my SUV for a Civic. A few weeks ago I decided to install a hitch on my car to use this rack again and the people who installed the hitch told me I needed this item. It does what it's supposed to do, namely stabilize. Without this strap, the bikes really bounce. The only problem is that there are no installation instructions included with the strap, which led to unnecessary frustrationโ€ฆ

My new product: Luggage rack

I have a larger bike rack for 4 bikes that is attached using a trailer hitch. It can also be swung down to open the trunk of my van. I love this bike rack, but the handy swivel feature makes it one of the most durable bike racks I've had. Even when everything is triple checked and tightened, it seems like the tiniest crack will ricochet. It doesn't really matter if I walk the short distance to the beach, but it always bothered me. I've read on their website and reviews that the rebound isโ€ฆ

Essential for transporting bikes with towbar mounted bike carrier

Of course you should use one of these with towbar mounted bike carrier. who knew I used mine for over a year until I read a review saying I should get one of these. One thing that has always bothered me was how much flex the bike rack has, especially when going over big bumps. I'm happy to say I'm much more comfortable with this setup. This posture doesn't even move anymore. For those unfamiliar with what it is, it's a simple strap that you attach to a bike rack and run to the trunk lid toโ€ฆ
