CURT 81277 Trailer Safety Chain Hook Carabiner Clip with Snap Hook, 7/16-Inch Diameter, 5000 lbs Capacity Review

Great for an extended chain for my pendant. I added a 12" hitch extension and an extra chain to the safety tow chains. The original chain hooks onto the 12" chain and the new hooks fit onto the 12" chain to form an extension chain for using the extension on the receiver. Works perfectly.

Was looking for a heavy duty D-ring to mount boat trailer emergency brakes. The install is currently running on Tundra 07 and the clip size is perfect for Tundra purposes. I haven't seen it in action and I hope I never do. I am sure that if necessary he will apply the emergency brakes on the trailer.

Very bad design. You might think it can be used on a chain with a diameter equal to the diameter of the shackle. It's not relevant. See Photo: The 3/8 safety chain does not go through the back of these braces so the 4 items I ordered are going in the trash I guess as for some reason I couldn't cancel my order I don't want to bother bother to return them.

It's a great price but when the gate is pushed all the way back the opening is only 1/4 inch which is next to useless for something so supposedly strong. 3/4" by cutting the end at an angle (not difficult if you have the right tools), but you still can't fit a regular tow chain. Even cutting back the gate won't do the trick. Everyday size links are 3/8". " wider than all internal widths. Virtually useless.

Curt has poor quality control and I'm surprised. Curt is a good trailer brand, but a complete failure. Look at the picture. One of the two opens enough to be plugged into a circuit of the same size, but the other is utterly useless for rated power work as it barely opens enough to attach to anything strong. The spring mounting hole is off-center and the spring arm is too long for the hole.

I bought two of these. One was slightly bent where the mount was about halfway to the side of the clip. I couldn't bend the hook to straighten it. The second issue is that I had to cut about 1/4 inch off the mounting bracket to make the hole big enough to fit my Ford F-350's mounting points. They worked after the change, but I didn't have to. The retaining clip was very long for what was needed and did not allow it to work in my application.

I ordered 2 of these chains for my trailer security chains as the old ones didn't fit properly on my new car's hitch. I was surprised when the 2 I received were not identical. One had less flex on the long side, making the latch taller and preventing it from snagging on my hitch. To fix this I cut about 1/4 inch off the attachment.
