The tip of the screw breaks when drilled

The tip broke after a few dozen holes although nothing solid was found. My guess is that the torque applied to the narrow area near the tip is exceeding the yield point and breaking it. It doesn't have to hit a nail to break. There's a reason the return guarantee is only 30 days. The tip is likely to break with prolonged use.
