Worst hard drive I've ever used

This is the worst hard drive I've ever used. I bought one to return immediately as it can't read CDs (it took me 12 tries to load my motherboard drivers from the CD!), then I paid for another one and during 8 DVD burns and 18 Light recorder burns, it no longer worked completely! This disc can only be burned with the Nero Burning software and not otherwise. I cannot recommend this CD to anyone!

Pros
  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • Some problems

terribly demanding for the media - HP support is terrible.

I bought this CD a month ago but I still can't get the light writer to work. The discs burned fine, but the Lightpeacebear kept saying "unidentified media" or other variants of the same error. This was done with the bundled HP drive that came with the drive. I bought several Verbatim CDs at Walmart. Same mistake. I gave up, tried negotiating with HP support to have it replaced, and finally ran into enough non-English speaking people and various 1-800 numbers. I gave up and just wanted to forget

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure

Avoid this internal optical drive junk

I have made 2 DVDs and 0 out of 10 attempts to burn an audio CD. It heats up horribly, and trying to use Light-Peep right after burning a DVD throws an "internal error". I took it back to Best Buy. They no longer had the 740iso with them. I said hell I'll take the 840i as long as it reads and writes the disc, but if you don't wait at least 5 minutes after burning the disc and try to burn its image overheats and gives the same message "Internal Error" " out. HP needs to fix this issue.

Pros
  • Availability
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised

The best way to avoid this junk is in the internals

Mine has 2 DVDs and 0 out of 10 attempts to audio CD burn. It heats up horribly, and trying to use Light-Peep right after burning a DVD throws an "internal error". I took it back to Best Buy. They no longer had the 740iso with them. HP needs to fix this issue.

Pros
  • Burning to DVD-R DL, DVDR/RW and also CD-R/RW
Cons
  • Sad hardware

High expectations but very disappointed

Lightscribe isn't the most important thing in a DVD burner, but that's why I chose this particular product over several alternatives. As an aftermarket addition to my Dell 4550 computer, after many hours of frustration, I can tell you that while it burns DVDs perfectly, the light writer does not work. I'm not the only one with this problem, it's quite common as I just found out. It does not recognize Verbatim or Memorex Lightscribe DVDs, including the free Lightscribe DVD that came with the…

Hope you don't need HP support

HP support should be labeled as non-support. I have purchased many HP products in the past but I have always been fortunate that so far they have all passed their warranty periods. I bought a Pavilion Media Center computer with Lightscribe and less than 5 months later the Lightscribe DVD died. Will they find me a replacement or just walk around? You have it. running around. I will never do that, and I advise everyone else not to buy from HP until they can back up their warranties.

Pros
  • Double your storage space to 8.5GB on a dual layer drive
Cons
  • Very expensive
