Great, but use lithium batteries or risk disaster.

Expensive but works well. The only problem is that if you're recording for a long period of time (e.g. several days), the system won't switch off when the batteries are low, meaning they can become completely discharged and leak. I caught it in time, the leak is small but not big. I hope it doesn't die later from the slow corrosion inside. This can be avoided by purchasing non-leakage AA lithium batteries. They are much more expensive than alkaline ones, but not nearly as expensive as these…

Easy-to-use dB Sound Level Meter

This Extech 407730 dB Sound Level Meter is easy to use and works very well. The instructions are simple and clear and everything works as expected. I had never owned or used a sound level meter before so I wasn't sure what to expect and someone told me it might be difficult but according to Dr. For Leonard Bones it is "so simple what a child can do. McCoy from the original Star Trek (episode "Spock's Brain")! Having "A" and "C" ratings is good. Make sure you know which one to use for your…

amazing meter

I received this a few days ago and it's an amazing meter. First, it uses much cheaper AAA batteries instead of expensive 9V batteries. I have a calibrator and it measured as soon as I received it. The owner's manual doesn't say how to calibrate it, but Extech's online manual shows how to do it. This gauge is a very accurate CLASS 2 gauge, CLASS 1 is better but costs over $700. This counter can be used in litigation and government surveillance. An UNCLASSED gauge that costs less than $100 or so…

  • quick start guide

I chose one of these to match the level of my subwoofer to my main stereo. It has A and C weighting and I used C as recommended. It worked great for that without having to understand anything, right out of the box. I also used it to check if the noise level in my child's room was in a safe range and adjusted it a bit. To be honest there are a lot of buttons that I probably won't use, but it's well done. It comes with a foam windscreen that you can use for outdoor activities. For a quick…

Very good sound level meter but note recalibration issue

Looks good. I won't refer to audiophile applications as I don't use this tool in that way. I wanted a device that would monitor noise levels in my area and at the job sites I visit so I don't have to rely on other people's claims about actual and perceived noise exposure. This device is quite suitable for this. The MAX function captures peak impact noise and isolates it from the main noise levels of the test area. This device was designed as a temporary or incremental measuring device…
