A typical free-blade vegetable peeler.

This is a regular peeler but with a wider and heavier handle. It's sharp, the blades cut easily. Unlike fixed-blade knives, this type has a slack, pivoting blade and moves a lot, making it difficult at times to "bite" the vegetables you're trying to peel. A slight annoyance for some, but an annoyance nonetheless. Thanks to the large handle, it takes up more space in the drawer, but the orange color makes it easy to find. Is it better than a cleaning knife, half the price and less? Not really.

good for bone marrow and shaving

This is a solid cleaner. It's sharp and effective. From an ergonomic point of view I prefer the Euro Cleaner (straight bar type) for most of my peeling needs like potatoes, apples and carrots and find it takes too much fruit or veg. BUT this peeler is perfect for me for peeling winter squash (acorn and nutmeg) which have tough and thick skin and need a stronger tool to remove a bit more. It's also great for shaving chocolate, cheese, carrots, etc. It's a good weight for those tasks and seems to

Perfect! in Kitchenware & Gadgets

I'm quite a snobbish cleaner and I rarely find someone I love in every way. Rare, but still possible. This one does! Not only am I pleased with the design and functionality, I'm also very happy that it's red (easy to find in a crowded toolbox) and that it's so affordable! What great value! My only suggestion for improvement would be to make a hole at the end of the handle where a cord could be threaded for hanging. Or maybe a steel core to hang on a magnetic board. Yes, I know - too picky. You…

Kitchen essential

This peeler works very well. I cook almost exclusively myself and we eat a lot of vegetables in this house. This peeler quickly processes carrots, potatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables. The blade works smoothly and the handle feels good in the hand. One thing I like is the orange color. Most of my other kitchen utensils are black, silver or wooden. All merge into boxes. The orange handle makes the knife easy to spot. The cleaner is easy to clean with warm soapy water or dishwasher safe. One…

Very sharp blades are best for kitchen utensils and gadgets

I love that this peeler has stainless steel blades that are likely to stay sharp for a very long time. The sharpener has a pleasant weight and feels good in the hand. The blade is very sharp and I probably wouldn't let a child use it. An inexpensive plastic protective case would also be nice for those who keep it in the kitchen drawer along with many other kitchen utensils. I've found this works well for shaving carrot or zucchini strips, or fairly thick strips. I have another knife but it…

  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Crumpled

I love this Farberware Y-Peeler! The grip fits my grip very well and the plastic is grippy but not sticky. The blade is really sharp and the angles are just right for peeling. So far I've used it with cucumber, potato and carrot and have been happy with its performance on all three. The Potato Eye Tool works great too. The blade comes with a blue protective film, which I only noticed the first time I washed it. Definitely delete them! I can't judge whether that's really "professional level" and

Close Shave: Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets

This is a compact scrub that works as expected. I say "compact" because its grip length is shorter than anything I've seen before, but it's also thicker, making it a comfortable grip for any hand size I can think of. We did two tests. I just used the bulk of the peeler, placed it on top of the carrots, and then ran the peeler over the carrots with no added pressure. As a result, the carrot's skin was completely removed, but very little "meat" was removed. Encouraged, I tried to peel the whole…

Facilitates exfoliation.

I have to admit that I don't use a potato peeler very much for most vegetables because we eat organic and not only is the skin healthy, it's very healthy right under the skin. So I wash my veggies really well! When I make candied yams for the holidays, yes, I do peel yams. I have a sweet potato at home so I tried it. wow i feel better And there is a loop on the side to pull the eyes out of a white potato. Just works. I used this chocolate chip knife, worked great. I've used it for hard cheeses,

Chunky and ineffective

This clunky, clunky knife looks like something Fisher Price would have made as an accessory in a Kid's First Kitchen Utensil Set. On the plus side, it's easy to grab and clean, but it just feels cheap. The main reason I took a few stars off of it is that it really isn't that good at peeling veggies. Due to the large distance between the blades, too much meat is pushed out when removing the skin. My absolute favorite is this tiny tool that effortlessly removes just the skin from apples to…
