This works great for keeping my two GSPs warm in the RV on a cold Utah winter and is also great for their kennel/home. I made them in New Mexico. While I don't know how comfortable plastic can be, dogs don't seem to mind and enjoy the warmth that they don't get too hot. My first unit died after about 35 days of use, but after contacting Farm Innovators, after troubleshooting, they quickly sent a replacement to make sure it wasn't just user error. This is my second purchase of this item. The one I bought last year works fine but I have more cats and need a different one. Doesn't overheat. After season 1 and season 2, the first one works fine. I built a new plywood box and insulated it with thick grain styrofoam. Folded the top so I can open it to install the heating plate. It can also be opened for cleaning. This heating pad is a cat meow! I love it and have used many different ones. You can't go wrong with this!

I bought this for my cats to use in their igloo kennel. Of course, when I installed this in the house, everyone gathered around me and tried to see what I was doing. I was a little disappointed because the rug is actually a hard plastic box, about 1/2" x 13 x 19" thick. It has a "cheesy" little cover made of faux (and very thin) sheep's wool.
