Purchase a six foot cable. These are much shorter.

Purchase a six-foot cable. They're a lot shorter than you think. Returned for a longer one. Only when fully stretched does it reach a length of four feet. Stretching is a lot harder than you think. There was a risk of pulling the pin on the cliff. I have six foot versions on both of my trailers. I consider this a significant change.

Pros
  • One-year trial
Cons
  • weak

Choose a length of 6 feet!

6ft fully stretched and it looks like it could even pull out the e-brake pin at 6ft like my rig (see photo). This has been taught and I'm glad I didn't go for the shorter 4 foot length. You can see that my switch and the connection point on my truck's bumper are no more than a few feet apart. Very happy with the look and build quality of the cable. This makes the installation look professional and neat.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Crumpled package

Check your length

Note: 4ft means 4ft including all cable redundancies. I measured the distance from my breakaway switch to the clutch at about 3.5 feet and figured four feet would allow for some extra clearance, but that's not the case. Four feet probably isn't good for attachments more than two feet from the breakaway switch. If the 6ft version is built the same way, it's probably only good for splicing up to 4ft to hold some cable slack for turns.

Pros
  • Easy Installation
Cons
  • Gotchas

Get 6 feet to fit hitch accessories

Like most of you I didn't know what size to buy. I chose almost 4 feet because it made sense to me because I didn't want the cable to drag or hang too low. I finally switched to 6ft at the last second, deciding it was better to make it too long than too short and I could just trim it down if I had to. It's definitely not 6 feet long even when fully extended, but it fits my 7x14 trailer. I will be ordering more for my other trailers as I think the looks and functionality are better than what…

  • Few competitors

Every trailer should have one

I love these things, use them on every trailer I own. Such a simple concept, can't understand why they don't come from the factory like this. The brake control line should run to the truck's frame or superstructure as a double backup, but the usual thin cable is pulled along the ground or is not long enough, so in most cases it terminates with a zip attached to a safety chain. These tear-away zippers give you the length and flexibility you need to hook anywhere without tugging or pulling the…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Great idea, better in every way!

This thing attaches to your kill switch, auto parks when not in use and attaches to your tractor fairly easily. It stays away and so does Sano! Pendants come with a piece of wire with a breakaway cord loop; it's too long, gets in the way of everything, and difficult to connect. Then you trip over it, or it grabs something and pulls itself up. what a mess! This coiled cord version is the coolest thing I've made for my pendants in a long time. It's as neat and stylish as it looks! I'm very…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Some tips. suitable for wiring

This is an almost perfect solution to a broken trailer brake cable. Some recommended tips: 1. As others have said, get 6 feet long. Even if you have a bumper trailer and the spec says you should get 4ft. Get 6 feet anyway 2. When you attach your trailer's breakaway pin to the ring of the cord, use the STAPLE PULLER to open the ring: it's much easier on your hands and requires fewer "words"3. Be careful when reinserting the pin into the trailer socket. It's a tight fit and the connection might…

Buy the right length!

Our travel trailer has 34" spacing between attachment points (trailer-to-truck switch). I'm glad we went with the 6 inch version over the 4 inch version. "Distance lengthens the spool by 47%. The 4" version would be 71% longer. The tension provided in the spool is well designed as there is almost no slack in the cable even when stretched to less than half its capacity. Judging by how it really works for us, I think we made the right choice. With this in mind, the marketing department could…

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Operating speed

MUCH neater than traditional cables

This cable looks a lot tidier than traditional breakaway cables and you don't have to worry about it dragging on the floor. Don't worry about the 4ft version as it is rolled up. The 6 foot version works just as well and only costs a few cents more, but gives you a lot more flexibility and range. My only concern is that the "cable" appears to be made of plastic with no wire or anything inside, so I'm concerned that it might become brittle over time. On the other hand, wire ropes always wear out…
