I have a Lenovo Thinkpad P1 Gen 2 with Windows 10 and bought a 4TB G drive with Thunderbolt 3. The drive is formatted for Mac, but the display says it's easy to reformat in the window. It's not easy to reformat. The drive does not appear as a drive on the computer. The G-Technology website says this is a common problem and has instructions on how to fix it. Great Thunderbolt 3 Drive! I hung it on the back of my 27" Retina 5K iMac and it's split into a 2TB volume for Time Machine backups and a 6TB volume for my offline music file storage. Just perfect! Great work! A slight click even when not actively reading/writing but I guess that's what you get with normal spindle drives Also use a good quality SHORT Thunderbolt 3 cable for maximum transfer speed, 0.5 meter is best.

With no fans and poor ventilation, it's so hot I keep using ice packs to cool it down. Lots of money and bad design. I wish I had never bought it. I had to buy additional drives and cases (with fan) because I don't trust this device anymore. This was the first G-Tech CD I bought and will be my last.

I want to believe in these hard drives. Looks great, build quality is great. To date I have bought about 50 of these from Revain and B&H. Mostly 8TB drives, some 6TB. Unfortunately, I see a high bounce rate. 3 have been returned to the manufacturer and I just found out that the 4th drive failed in the field today. And out of 4 hard drives that failed, 2 caused a kernel panic. Myself and another colleague have observed this behavior on several different Macs.

I've been using G-Drives for years with no problems. I've been migrating data for probably 10-15 years and several computers have used these drives for backup. I wish G people had more ports on cheaper drives. but well. This connected to my new Mac in about 10 minutes and immediately backed up all my data. Weekly review. Have had additional GRAid floppy disks for years with no problem, which prompted me to switch to floppy disks. I have decided to add disks to another system without raid. This required an adapter and I went with the 6" cable which adds $100 to the cost but now I can share 2 USB ports with a second HDD port. Since I have 2 Thunderbolt displays, I can now get 5 inches from my faster i7 CPU and a second monitor connected to the i5 that doesn't render 4K smoothly.
