High-precision HFS Steel Parallel 0002 Hardened - The Perfect Tool for Accurate Measurements Review

I checked all the rods with Starrett digital calipers and a micrometer. The measurements of each size show that it is a consistent set. Surfaces and edges have a very nice finish. The only discrepancy I found was that the 1 inch rods were .0002 too small. I rate the rods five stars but skipped one star overall due to the latch on the body not locking. Parallel bars are great for a medium sized machine shop or home workshop.

These parallels are okay for the money. The swallowtail is rough and hard. I've measured with a micrometer at various settings and got slightly different results from 0.0001 to 0.0004 along the length of the parallel. They appear to be capped and then sanded on all 6 sides and the finish quality is 6/10. They appear to be the same ones pictured by Accusize which are about twice the price. Not very good but if I wanted something more I would buy Starrett, Brown & Sharp or Mitutoyo. They're good…

I needed a set of parallels to work in a vise, strong construction to withstand the operation of the machine in the mill without paying a high price for the 'brand' - And that's it. I didn't buy this set to use gauge blocks, I bought them to be parallel and they match that score within a few tenths.
