Description of Highly Accurate Laser Distance Module- ACEIRMC 2Pcs VL53L0X ToF Ranging Sensor Breakout

1.The VL53L0X from ST Microelectronics is a time-of-flight ranging system integrated into a compact module. This board is a carrier for the VL53L0X, so we recommend careful reading of the VL53L0X datasheet (1MB pdf) before using this product. 2.The VL53L0 uses ST's FlightSense technology to precisely measure how long it takes for emitted pulses of infrared laser light to reach the nearest object and be reflected back to a detector, so it can be considered a tiny, self-contained lidar system. 3.Ranging measurements are available through the sensor's I⊃2;C (TWI) interface, which is also used to configure sensor settings, and the sensor provides two additional pins: a shutdown input and an interrupt output. 4.The VL53L0X is a great IC, but its small, leadless, LGA package makes it difficult for the typical student or hobbyist to use. It also operates at a recommended voltage of 2.8 V, which can make interfacing difficult for microcontrollers operating at 3.3 V or 5 V. Our breakout board addresses these issues, making it easier to get started using the sensor, while keeping the overall size as small as possible. 5.A time-of-flight ranging system integrated into a compact module

Wow! Exceeds expectations.

Using for a 275V oil tank level sensor in BEST_ACCURACY_MODE in python on an RPi. Getting about +/-1 gal at half full. I wish the seller offered a glass cover option.UPDATE: Given the above success with a quick try, dangling the breakout board into the tank on the end of four wires, and I sat down to make a more permanent design. I purchased IR transmitting, crosstalk blocking, covers from a french company (google "Gilsymo") that cost me 10x what these breakouts did. I measured them up and cut…

Pros
  • 0.79 x 0.39 x 0.39 inches
Cons
  • Costly: The module comes with a high price tag, making it less accessible for budget-conscious customers

Works great!: my feedback

Works well out of the box. Connected to Arduino and no issues. Note the distance it measures depends on what surface it hits, but reliably worked for me up to 60cm no matter what material.

Pros
  • ACEIRMC
Cons
  • The module's compatibility with certain devices is limited, making it less versatile in its application

Good range and acurate for my use

The title state the good but one problem I had is the library size, just the most simple implementation consumes most of the flash memory on a Arduino Uno. Still the best tof I have used so far.

Pros
  • 0.634 ounces
Cons
  • Lack of Technical Support

works great, as described.

these sensors are good for the price. it is within +/- 10mm and can be filtered in software to be +/- 1mm. can measure between 30-50 times a second if using continuous mode

Pros
  • 5.A time-of-flight ranging system integrated into a compact module
Cons
  • Limited Range: Despite being a highly accurate laser distance module, the ACEIRMC 2Pcs VL53L0X ToF Ranging Sensor Breakout has a limited range, making it unsuitable for use in larger areas

works and responds quickly

Connected to an ESP32 board, and read the sensor using ESPHome. Worked exactly as it should. I have not yet tested accuracy, but it does work in a monotonic way, so could easily be calibrated, if necessary. I only tested with a 1Hz response, but rwas even faster than that.

Pros
  • Motion Detectors
Cons
  • Installing the module requires a significant level of technical expertise, making it difficult for novice users to handle

Used to align robot for cone drop experiment

These worked much better than the ultra-sonic sensors I first tried. The beam cone is much tighter with the VL53L0X. I used two of them attached to arms mounted to the front of the robot. The idea was to drive the robot manually and as soon as the pole is sensed, the robot goes autonomous, self aligns to the pole then drops the cone. Each VL53L0X measures the distance to the pole and when left == right, drop the cone. The reason I use two sensors is that the distance to the pole will change…

Pros
  • 2.The VL53L0 uses ST's FlightSense technology to precisely measure how long it takes for emitted pulses of infrared laser light to reach the nearest object and be reflected back to a detector, so it can be considered a tiny, self-contained lidar system.
Cons
  • The module is fragile and prone to damage if not handled carefully, making it unsuitable for rugged environments
