This fan has a very low profile. It's hard to tell from the pictures. Fall from the ceiling by about 1 palm. 42" was perfect for my 8x10 garage office. It looks professional and installation was easy. The mounting system is much simpler than some I've installed. The only minor complaint is the connection of the case to the bracket. Bought 2 of these fans for my basement with low ceiling. Since then they have been working on Wednesday for 3 months. They are quiet and only took about 1.5 hours to install. The low profile is great when you need clearance and don't need lighting. The finish and looks are great, and they let plenty of air through without overloading or blowing papers all over the room. I needed a flat fan to transform my office. The fan is attractive, although I was surprised by the size of the case - just over 30cm across. I'm not sure if the bracket was bent or if my ceiling is uneven, but one side was flush with the ceiling and the other side was about ¼ inch clear.
