HOT and SLOW for PLA, but it looks nice

PLA is a bit awkward to use. I was able to get it up and running reliably after about 6 hours of setup. I ended up with a nozzle temp of 230°C (very high, possibly a hardware issue with my prusa i3 mk3), bed temp of 60°C, retraction of 3mm at 60mm/s, first layer speed of 10mm/s, Outer circumference 30 mm/s and filling 45 mm/s. Speed. SLOW and HOT for PLA. The good news is that it has a good finish and the red color looks great. I bought QTY5, 2kg spools in different colors from IC3D PLA and all

Quality Product at a Great Price

I was looking for a good quality PLA at a good price that wouldn't break the bank for prototyping. So I grabbed a roll of this as it was pretty cheap. IC3D far exceeded my expectations with their PLA. Delivered in a beautiful box sealed with a silica gel pouch. But what I loved about the packaging is that there is a wetness indicator strip on the roll. This is the first filament supplier I've bought it from and when I see it I think IC3D is raising the bar. Moisture can destroy some filaments…

  • 3D Printing Consumables
Cons
  • Expensive

For reference I am using a Powerspec 3D Pro 2 printer with Simplify 3D software. in several different filament options, mainly ABS and PLA. After trying several filament options available at my local micro center with my printer, I got what appeared to be mediocre and somewhat acceptable results. I say "seems" because I really didn't know what the capabilities of this printer were, as well as what the print quality and good results should be. After doing a lot of research and consulting with…
