Check battery voltage before use

03/15/2019. The new device comes with a dead battery and the switch is on. Replace it with a new Duracell 9VDC battery and it will produce the correct frequency and dB. Before calibrating sound level devices, it is recommended to check the battery voltage to ensure proper operation and calibration.

Cons
  • Big and bulky

The price for this device is unbeatable!

I have used expensive calibrators and my experience is that this one works just as well as any other. Legal work requires a calibration certificate from B&K or NIST or some other recognized organization, but all my SPL meters are within fractions of a dB of each other. Re: Ambient noise, who cares about half a dB or something? I'm open to learning this.

He does what he has to do.

If you care about using a calibrated sound level meter, you need one of these. There are no whistles or bells in the device. It has a switch that allows you to set the unit to 94dB or 114dB at 1kHz. For more see reedinstruments.com under the heading; Security > Sound Level Meter. The device is used to calibrate sound level meters with a microphone rod with a diameter of 1/2 inch. I believe this is the cheapest calibrator I could find since all other calibrators were in the $250 range. gave…
