Very disappointing Brad point drill bit

All I needed was a 7/16" drill bit to drill a decent hole in 1/16" thick aluminum plate. This bit didn't make it! Not only could it not cut through the board, but the pointy thing on the tip enlarged the pilot hole unevenly, causing the bit to wander around and making a mess in my project. oh my

Pros
  • Brad point drill bit
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Poor-point drill

Does what it's supposed to do. It's Irvine, so quality. The price was slightly above average with free shipping so I paid a little more to be lazy and not drive to the store. I use it to make pens and other wooden stamp holders and the bottom of the drilled hole was flat, just like it should be. Start VERY slow until you break the surface, then use only medium speed for really good holes.

Pros
  • Pre-sharpened cutting edges reduce chipping and ensure a smooth, clean hole
Cons
  • Available in black only

Drills don't drill for drills

I bought these drills to drill dowel holes in a cedar frame I'm making. I found the drills reasonably priced and since they came from Irwin I wasn't concerned about the quality. In fact, it took me a lot of effort to get the 1/2" bit to cut through the cedar, and in the end I gave up trying in favor of an old Craftsman spade bit, which worked effortlessly. I made a very bad choice buying drills from Irwin. BTW, after the first few seconds of using the Irwin drill, I wondered if it would work…

Pros
  • Wide chip flutes allow for fast and consistent chip flow
Cons
  • Large and bulky
