Maybe stronger than marked

I used this descaler on my Noritz water heater. It seems to have worked well, but the label says it's not corrosive, but the MSDS says the main active ingredient is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride (aka hydrochloric acid). My pump body and hose fittings were badly corroded in just 45 minutes. Be careful when using a metal pump.

2020 NEW HOUSE BLACK WATER DO NOT BUY

So we bought our house brand new in 2020, watched the video and decided to do this flush after a year of ownership. I read the reviews and saw REALLY black water, but I was like, eh, that's not me. Should be good". NOT CORRECT. After 20 minutes of rinsing I came back to check and my water was dark! I stopped IMMEDIATELY. I'm writing this review 6 months after purchase. DO NOT BUY. I'll take some vinegar and use it SMDH.

Be careful when cleaning the house

We've been using a tankless tank for about a decade. I bought a cleaning kit from Home Depot and cleaned it with vinegar every 18 months. We usually get some haze in the vinegar. When using this product we ended up with an oily bluish gray mixture which I believe came from the drain pump. After about 40 minutes the suction pump failed. I tried flushing with water through the pump but it still didn't work. Loud but not wobbly. I'll buy a new sump pump and get back to the vinegar.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Minor repairability

Be careful! This dissolved my rubber seal in the flush hoses.

I added this to a gallon of water in my water heater flush bucket. I turned on the pump and walked for an hour. Shouldn't have done that. It turned out that this cleaner had dissolved some of the gum in the hoses I used for flushing and ended up clogging the screen in the water heater and not allowing liquid to flow through the heater. I'm not sure how many cleanings I did before the filter became clogged. Next time I'll use plain homemade vinegar in a bucket.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

Safe and effective from a plumber's point of view

I have been using this product for 3 years as annual maintenance for my Navien Combi boiler. I put it in a bucket of hot water with a pump. and flush my boiler's heat exchanger for 1 1/2 hours. This product is very effective in removing scale from your hot water coil. Year after year it brings the hot water output in my boiler to a new level. .No more hot and cold spots. It's safe and effective. Feel free to buy this product and use it year after year. The price is reasonable compared to other…

worked for descaling the water heater

I buy this item together with the pump and hoses to descale my water heater because it often stopped working (a day or two) and every time it stopped working , I have to reset. I used everything in the bottle and added some water, probably a gallon or two of water. After that, the water heater worked normally (at least for the last four days continuously). I then found a black greasy substance in the bucket, although many other reviewers complained about this, and the color of the metal part of

First Time - Household Goods

I have never used this product and I'm not sure if my experience was normal. 18 months since my Rinnai was new (we have a well and use a good quality water softener and acid neutralizer). I was told to expect this product and the mixing water to make aqua water (due to the copper pipes losing some of their color) but my experience was BLACK water and quite a bit of content in the water (e.g. thin sauce effect). . After one wash (which was almost as dark as the water and FlowAide mixture) I…

  • Without Automatic

I have used it to flush a Noritz water heater and also with a Superior Pump submersible pump which Amazon buyers use frequently. 40 minutes - a lot of black stuff in a bucket. This is not to be expected when removing limescale and I suspect this is due to corrosion in the pump. At least I really hope it doesn't corrode anything in a tankless water heater! I couldn't find a specific ingredient list, but the MSDS says <10% hydrochloric acid. This is some really powerful stuff and if the…

Didn't work for all purpose cleaner

The original descaler I bought last winter worked very well. I noticed the instant water flow increased after flushing my Rinnai water heater. I tried using vinegar after the first rinse but it didn't work as well as the descaler mentioned above. I used about 1.5 gallons of vinegar. Today I tried to use a freshly bought descaler. I added 8 ounces to 1 gallon of water, the liquid barely covered the pump so I added another 1 gallon of water + 8 ounces of descaler. The pump has been running for 2…
