Worth the price.

My old HP computer died and I marked every disc I recorded with a light pen. Without thinking, my computer repair business led me to buy the Dell I use now. I loaded my Lightscribe software and started writing on the disc, but the CD writing software was not compatible. i wasn't happy Now I'm back in business with this Lightscribe compatible external drive. just plug it in and get started.

Seems to work but unreliable

For a DVD recorder that is far from the cheapest on the market, the lack of reliability was shocking. Most of the time it worked with single layer DVD+/-R discs, but sometimes it failed - sometimes it didn't even recognize a new disc. Most of the time it didn't work with dual layer DVD+R discs, but sometimes it did. Overall not much better than half price DVD recorders. I consider Lightscribe as an advertisement and has no value.

Superb CD/DVD, the best computer components

Works right out of the box. Short learning curve: The drive is recognized by the system and is fully functional when powered via the optional USB port.

Unable to read DVD on MacBook Pro with macOS High Sierra - Version 10.13.6

When plugged in, the device disabled my connection to other external drives. I support connecting with 2 Lexar thumbs and a Western Digital 2TB external SSD for code repositories. When I connected the JOTEC drive via the included USB-C connector, all other external drives were immediately disconnected. The JOTEC drive did not read the DVD (tested and readable on previous MacBooks with internal DVD). It also took three reboots of the MacBook Pro to get it back to its previous state of reading…

Ease of use in computers and accessories

Compact, easily portable and contemporary plug/play recognition. Purchased specifically to enable DVD burning and Litescribe on multiple PC platforms and laptops as needed. Cables can be longer to allow for contralateral drive placement.

Works and is good enough for the price

I've burned a few discs so far with no problems. I will say the tray is pretty flimsy and I feel like I'm about to stall when I try to insert a disc. Removing the disc is fine. I have yet to use the Lightscribe feature, but you should be aware that software from Hp is required for this feature to work.

Value for money :) Best external components

Already used a few times with my 2018 MacBook Pro laptop. I love it! In terms of portability, it is lightweight and easily fits in my backpack. It just works :)

Installed on 2 Windows machines with no problems and it works.

While burning some CDs and DVDs to send my wife's MRIs and X-rays to the doctor, I found that I no longer had a computer with a LightScribe labeling drive. This arrived today and I installed it on both an HP Windows 7 Pro computer and a Compaq Windows XP Pro computer with no problems. For some reason writing data on a Windows XP Pro computer seems to be slightly faster than on a Windows 7 Pro computer. I found and used the HP LightScribe software on the software archive website.
