Working Arduino Nano, soldering problems

Have 5 Arduino Nano. Funny how each one was sealed in an ESD bag. Inside the case, the Nano has been sealed with non-conductive white foam to protect the pens. The funny thing is, if the Nano is really sensitive to ESD, a good option is to stick it in non-conductive foam. Fortunately, these devices can be treated with no more than moderate care. All five devices turned on and started the preset blinking routine. I installed each Nano in a circuit that uses SPI and PWM capabilities andโ€ฆ

4 out of 5 of them have a dead 3.3V contact

I should have gone with the nanos I usually buy but I chose these to try. You have an OLD bootloader and 4 out of 5 of those 3.3v don't work. I didn't notice it at first until I tried using the pin with a specific project. Tested the other 5 packs and found that only 1 of them had a working 3.3v pin, but the one with working 3.3v only output 4v on the 5v pin. Decided to pull out one of them to experiment with another. The sensor I just received. Just plugged the Nano into USB to make sure itโ€ฆ

(Looks like a fake CH340G as there is no marking)

1/5 received with a non-working USB chip. (looks like a fake CH340G as there is no marking). There's no USB chip setup software like there is for the FT232RL, so you can't set up or reset the chip if it burns out. The USB protection diode is very weak and easily broken if care is not taken. I have already replaced 2 diodes. If they fail, they will fail as a short circuit, so the board will still function, but will no longer protect the USB connector from reverse polarity. Otherwise works asโ€ฆ

I'm amazed at what you can do with these little things.

I had an idea for one of those silly projects that takes a lot of time and detail to make something that could be solved with a sticker or an Alexa query. I wasn't sure if this little board could handle it all, especially when I added a micro SD. Right now we have a micro SD, a 16 key keyboard, a real time clock and a nice little display. All this with a few pins left over. The keyboard uses most of the pins because the RTC and display use a two-wire bus, and the SD drive uses few extra pinsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Like always
Cons
  • The list is getting long.

I have read the reviews and I understand some of the complaints and why they didn't rate it as highly. I bought them with the terminals already attached and other companies with terminals that I had to solder on. Having never bought from any of these companies I wasn't sure where to go. I wasn't sure what the quality of the preinstalled connectors and the quality of the soldering would be like. The cost of this connector with connectors already installed turned out to be less. Both versionsโ€ฆ
