Prefer it for BBQ

This is a standard thermometer with a small dial. This one isn't oven safe, so you're pretty much leaving with the stove and grill. My friend likes to check steaks before baking them in the oven. I enjoy grilling for a variety of options. But it is easy to clean, small and compact. The price is a bit higher than others but it is well made and works as intended. It's not as fast as a digital thermometer, but the time difference doesn't bother me.

High quality set at Kitchen & Dining

Nice thermometer and case set. The price is right and it looks like it will last a long time. It's easy to use and fast. The sleeve holds the thermometer and also acts as a key to calibrate the thermometer when it becomes inaccurate. You simply place the thermometer in ice water and adjust the crown to 32°F with a wrench. The only thing I don't like about these types of thermometers is that almost none of them come with a clip, so you can keep them in the pot or bowl without hitting the bottom.

Pros
  • Special offer
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

I don't find it quick or easy. I'm sticking with my digital ones

The dial is small and difficult to read. I find it very slow compared to my digital thermometers. It takes 20-30 seconds from not using to reading 168 on chicken. My numbers show 178 or higher and the chicken is done, visually and when pressed it looks over 175. Mine was immediately inaccurate. Recalibrating it has improved it a lot, but it still doesn't read like my digital ones. The stem is short. It's too short for safe candy making in my opinion. On the other hand, it does not require…

1 star off because it's so small!

Okay this is a quality thermometer but I'm old with old eyes and when I looked at the front of this thermometer even though it says the top is enlarged I had a hard time reading it. If it was maybe half an inch bigger it might solve my old eye problem but that's just me. The thermometer itself, for preparing candy or checking a bird's internal temperature to make sure it's being cooked to a safe temperature, is definitely worth using. As they say, this CANNOT be put in a turkey or whole chicken

Pros
  • Easy to set up
Cons
  • Almost never

My favorites are KitchenAid and Cuisinart

My entire kitchen consists of these two brands. We have a KitchenAid blender and everything, toaster, coffee maker, grill, Cuisinart food processor. I like the quality of these brands because cooking is also a hobby for the whole family. Need a new little thermometer because the last digital one sank in the sink. I wanted something that wouldn't die if accidentally dropped in liquid. Very robust construction with excellent double holder/case. Out of curiosity, I compared it to the accuracy of…

Works well, small, not immediately readable

This is a small 1 inch diameter thermometer for checking the temperature of meat and other foods. It's not oven safe so just use it to check the temperature and remove it. The problem is that it takes almost 30 seconds to get a stable reading in cold weather, so it's not ideal when using an oven. I've had the best results grilling as it comes in packaging that works well in that environment. I've only been using digital thermometers for a few years and generally prefer them, but this one…
