Description of Klein Tools Ratcheting Crimper 10 22

Crimps insulated terminals onto 10-22 AWG stranded copper wire. Adjustable compound action design puts more crimping power into each squeeze. Three crimping cavities in one tool: 22–16 AWG (Red), 16–14 AWG (Blue) and 12–10 AWG (Yellow) terminals. Built-in ratchet ensures full-cycle crimping for a uniform crimp every time. Unique cavity design provides consistent crimp from either side of the tool.

Doesn't work for 22 AWG

The tool appears to be well made, sturdy and of good quality, the problem is that red (22 AWG to 16 AWG) is too big. TE quick connector and not enough crimp pressure. The wire slips out of the connector. The same happens with fast disconnections from HomeDepot and Ace. A cheap HD tool bundled with connectors works much better. Klein's tool seems to work well with blue connectors or ticker wire, but is useless for 22AWG. I think it would be just as bad for 20AWG.

Another well-made, easy-to-use tool from Klein Tools!

I am very glad I bought this good value Klein Tools 3005CR crimping tool. I've been using cheap crimping tools for years and have had either bad crimps, broken connectors or wires, or just plain bad connections that are just perfect. Love the fact that you can adjust the crimp force with a bit of pressure, you can loosen the tool earlier if needed, and the fact that it's very convenient and easy to use. The only thing I'm a little disappointed with is that you can remove the punches in the…

Wire will not crimp

I remember Klein's name from my days with the phone company. Some of these hand tools were confiscated from me but are still like new after 35 years. This crimping machine does not meet the same criteria as Western Electric for distribution to the Bell System. Crimping multiple connector types was also unsuccessful. With 18 AWG wire, a full crimp will not hold the wire securely. When the shrink connector was tested, the shrink adhesion falsely held the wire in place and there was obvious damage

Cons
  • Problems

Not as strong as it should be

Blue (medium sized) connectors can get a decent crimp. It's too tight for Red, and you can tell by the shape of the plugs that one jaw deviates to the side, resulting in at least a twisted plug if not a broken wire. Wheel. The small size can technically be crimped without the wire coming out, but it takes more practice than you would expect. And with this pressure, the blue plugs don't hold up. They just didn't do their job well. It's technically possible. With enough exposure, it can do its…

Pros
  • Adjustable compound latch design increases crimp force with each squeeze
Cons
  • Poor repairability

Unreliable, not recommended

This crimping tool feels good and seems to get the job done. BUT, no matter how I inserted the 14g wire, rotated the terminal, or adjusted the force, this crimping tool just doesn't produce a crimp that feels secure and can be tested with even moderate force. It is very easy to pull the 14g wire back out of the connector. By simplicity I mean that if you had to run a wire through conduit, it would most likely pop out of the connector. I adjusted the small cog on the side to increase the power…

Pros
  • Unique socket design ensures even crimping on both sides of the tool
Cons
  • There are imperfections

To answer this burning question that worries everyone.

YES, HE CRIMPS THE SPARK PLUG WIRE TERMINALS! If it turns out that my experience differs from my first impression, I will adjust my rating accordingly. I've never used ratchet pliers before. I assumed you were increasing the pressure each time you squeeze the handles. If you think so too, then you are mistaken. You only press once. When squeezing, the crimping tool will click as it moves forward. When loosening, the tool is not released. It stays in that position until you squeeze it harder or…

Pros
  • Built-in ratchet provides full crimp cycle for consistent crimping every time
Cons
  • Large and bulky
