Genealogy: Slide and negative scanner

My mother is a genealogist and needs to be photographed with her to exchange photos with newly found relatives. We thought it would be great and it was pretty good. It's already had some issues that other people have mentioned regarding white lines etc when trying to clean them up and it's a little bit better. Just be aware that this is likely to happen.

  • One year trial

What happened? for office electronics

I bought the smaller model 5 years ago and scanned my family photos with great success. I needed one for large photos so I bought it. It was terrible. I have about 50% "success" with this scanner. No matter what I do, it doesn't get better. I started using the flatbed scanner because it's so much faster.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • A few little things

Not as good as Kodak 4x6 model

Bought Kodak 8x10 because I used to buy their 4x6 model. 4x6 works great. This one is just fine. The quality on 4x6 seems good every time. Sometimes the 8x10 appears to draw a line across the image. I had to rescan 10x more images on 8x10 to get a better copy than on 4x6. But an 8x10 image scanner is hard to come by and for around $100 it does the job.

Pros
  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Not sure

The product is fast but I was only able to save one photo. I've tried cleaning the scanner, calibration card, and plastic case, nothing helped. Only my first photo turned out nice. Terrible scanner. I found a note that one person fixed it, but I tried their suggestions and still nothing but crappy photos. I was planning to do this big project and now I'm stuck looking for another scanner. I do not recommend it at all!

  • Very impressive

absolutely love it! Gave 4 stars because of the editing software

I'm a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews but I think it's great. I only gave it 4 stars because I think it's a software issue. The scanner is very easy to use. I scanned 100 photos in a very short time. I got a few lines that some people have complained about, but they weren't big white lines. They were very thin and distorted, which was more scanned. They were only visible when zoomed in. They can easily be removed with the editing software that comes with the scanner. I cleaned

  • Great for me

Koda P811 Photo Scanner

This is a great scanner for home and travel. It's also battery operated and travels well. It is lightweight and takes up little space. I'm a genealogist and when we have a family reunion it's great to bring family photos and have them scanned on site if those older family members don't want to part with the original photos! The scanner scans them directly onto the included SAN disk and simply downloads them to your computer. I don't go anywhere without it. It seems light, but it is able toโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Scan any printed photo from wallet to 8 x 10 inches
Cons
  • Very Expensive

My project

I loved this car when I got it and for a long time afterwards. I checked other reviews before purchasing but was desperate for a second small scanner to use while watching TV in the evenings (my other scanner/fax/copier was in the other room). Bought to scan my mother's (86 year old) photo albums (18 in total) and load them into a digital photo frame for entertainment at the nursing home. After scanning more than 1200 photos, a white stripe started appearing on the photos. I have cleaned up the
