🏞️ Thetford 40830 RV Ladder Mount System: Universal Rack for SmartTote2, Waste Tanks, Bikes & Chairs Review

Not suitable for higher quality RV ladders. Only works on small diameter stairs. Don't you think Thetford will offer larger mounting brackets at extra cost? Well they don't.

This stand is easy to install and is great for storing my portable dump truck. At first I was a bit concerned that this would put too much strain on the ladder, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I use 2 ratchet straps. I wrap the lower one around the bumper to relieve tension.

App ok. Works great for what it is. THIS IS FOR THE MANUFACTURER: Please either don't stick the 50 lb weight sticker or make a new space for it because when you slide the bottom bracket down to mount it on the stairs it will scrape the sticker off and looks like garbage. Now you need to take it off and peel off the glue. Next time, think about Hole quitting the job

Not sure my bike will hang too well on anything else on this road without other attachment points. If you're buying this to hold your Doodoo bag, most bags already have a hook to hang them on your RV's stairs. Hex head screws are difficult to install with the tool provided. I would suggest using a better quality Allen key.

I'll probably install it today but thought these pictures might be helpful to others. Will update with my progress and impression. Update: Easy to install. It looks like it will work fine. Just added an image. It shows that a "deburring stone" is stuck in the hole. A little work to figure it out. I only included this because someone else said it had burrs. I did not. I wouldn't rely on the strap that came with it. Get better straps.

The mounting bracket did not work with my Lance caravan (was too small) as Lance uses larger tubes for its ladders and the mounting brackets supplied with this kit are designed for thinner rails. If you have narrow rails this mounting kit will probably work well with a Thetford bag or other bag but I got rid of my Thetford bag and went for the Rhino bag which has its own mount and the size of the rails doesn't matter . So I didn't need the kit anyway.

We use this transporter ladder attachment system to transport our portable garbage truck up the rear fifth wheel ladder and it works great. It supports the van from below, and we use a strap down the middle to hold it tight against the ladder. We also use a chain lock to prevent the car from being stolen (as they aren't cheap). Let's face it! Space is a bonus in any motorhome. Just not enough. Whoever thought of storing things on the stairs was AWESOME! This ladder shelf is mounted on the stairs where the steps are located. If you want it to be higher, just move it up one level. The steps prevent the ladder frame from slipping. The levers have 2 positions and are fixed in each position with locking pins.
