Description of Lees Premium Undergravel 12 Inch 48 Inch

The larger plate sizes reduce the number of plates required. The added strength of the UGF plates makes this filter most preferred by saltwater aquarists. Size: 12-inch by 48-inch.

So far it's working great and I'm happy with it.

Works great so far and I'm happy with it in my 55 gallon tank. My only complaint is the tubes, I wish they were higher to reach the water surface but I'm getting used to it.

Pros
  • Enjoy
Cons
  • Not the best

I had to replace the UG filters in my 55 gallon tank because the old filter was past its life. The Premium Lee UG filter had more than enough detail to set it up. It can be used quickly and easily after removing the old UG aquarium filter. I've tried other types and the solid construction of this premium version is the best in my opinion.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Small parts

Also works as intended.

I have this in a 110 gallon open tank. It works well. The plates are on top of the 4 bulkheads. I attached flexible hoses to 4 risers and connected them along with tees to a 1200 GPH submersible pump that pumps water into my waterfall filter. The mulma is drawn under the plates and accumulates over time, but periodic draining of water from the bottom of the tank releases it in sufficient quantities.

Pros
  • Solid construction
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen

Sturdy, well-designed black panels plus

Lee's makes some of the best eel filters - black panels are especially great if you have cichlids or others who enjoy shoveling, digging or moving gravel. The only thing I don't like about Lee's Ug filters are their elbows - there's something about the construction that creates an annoying gurgling noise - I usually use Penn Plax elbows which fit the top of Lee's Airlifts. .

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • badly-designed

Better a good substrate layer

This is an undergravel filter. Seems to be working fine. Maybe a bit pricey for some plastic parts but still. The only physical issue I had was that the ridges need a fairly thick layer of backing to align so you can install the decor without tipping it over when the edge meets the gutter. BTW I have no idea what "transparency" is in the stats section so I gave it a medium star.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Exactly what I was looking for.

I like that it's black. Sometimes with my stream under the gravel (white plastic) you can see if the gravel is getting thin/fine. (I prefer darker gravel to enhance the color of the fish) Only thing I have and it's actually nothing but the description led me to believe it was a solid plate. Actually two. It's unbeatably easy to pair the Lees Under Gravel with a high-performance water filter for more water clarity. I have found this combination to be as "maintenance free" as an aquarium can be.

Great underwater filter

I've always liked gravel filters. If you don't have fish that like to dig in the gravel, they are perfect. It requires regular cleaning with a gravel vacuum, but again, you still need to maintain your aquarium. I was surprised at how well this filter was built. I looked at another one in the store, everything was very flimsy and the vertical tubes were flimsy and seemed fragile. I put it in a 12 x 48 60 gallon tank, basically the same size as the 55 gallon tank but a little deeper. It comes in…

great for distributing return water canisters

very good! This corrugated plate can hold a lot of weight, and the creases help hold the substrate in place better than the flat trays found at most stores. Underground filters are ignored by people these days, but I've used them for years with a canister filter that sends returns. Water back into the plates, this forces it to be consumed and floats above the substrate to be collected, but the canisters soak up the filter. It is also a very efficient method of circulating the water very evenly…

Good quality UG filter

I read other reviews and they downgraded this UGF. This is one of the nicest I've had and many for over 30 years. As a powerhead user I would like them to NOT include carbon filter mounting heads or air lines, they should be optional and reduce the cost of the unit. I don't think many people try to use UGF as their primary and only filtering system. Works best in conjunction with another system. Each of the 2 UG plates leaves a small gap between them, maybe 1-1/4" isn't a big deal, although the
