Description of πͺ Contractor's Half Hatchet by Link Handles 65274
For no. 2 shingling, half-hatchet, claw and no. 1 broad hatchets, Eye 1-19/32" x 19/32". Better-quality American hickory. Contractor grade. Length is 14".
The negative reviews worried me, but the pen I received looks good. Good grain, no sticky polish, no issues mentioned in the negative reviews. I'm happy.
What I received was quite a bit of POS. deviation of the scar pattern by 90 degrees; strangely sanded so that one side did not match the other; Slot for bevel and off-center wedge; etc. The guy did it, must have been drinking. You won't be able to choose a good one if you're buying hammer pins by mail order, but good luck finding one at Lowes. I had to order three or four with the idea of getting a decent one.
The hammer and hatchet have been processed, and now another period of devotional service to humanity begins. I look forward to re-mastering these practical objects and handling them with the same dexterity my father gave me. Life is beautiful, man goes first, I'm starting over with a recycled ax and hammer. What could go wrong now? Jatahey! DEC
It's not terrible; Grain is not perfect. If the grain of a short-handled tool is very important to you, buy it from a specialist dealer. If it was a full size ax or sled I wouldn't use it. Pretty sure it will be fine for a small axe. Certainly not "premium" quality. I probably wouldn't buy it again, but it's good enough for my purposes. 3 stars for the lack of the metal wedge as stated and pictured and NOT colored and the wedge slot is not centered.
Head measurements were not given when purchased so it didn't quite fit when it arrived (a bit small). Through no fault of their own, I bought it for a 1-1/2 pound head and probably should have bought it for 1 pound bits or less. Otherwise it is perfect and lasts a long time with a good fit. It comes with a wooden wedge but no metal clips which is good, it should still hold up very well with proper handling.
Great for the price. I bought this handle to get my old Plumb hatchet back to work. The handle is very strong and the perfect length in my opinion. A wedge is included, but it's worth noting that this will need to be cut to fit and is made of wood rather than metal. None of these things bothered me, especially considering I had enough wedge left after installing it to use on another axe. The shape of the "tip" didn't fit my hatchet perfectly, but it fit well and is very snug, I use it regularly
Claw Hammer replacement handle too small and ax handle too big. Revain offers a replacement for the Half Hatchet grip that requires a little adjustment, but not much. The handle is solid oak, mine has no knots. The wooden wedge that comes with the handle is not oak but light pine which I hope will stand the test of time. Please note that this purchase does not include a metal wedge. If I hadn't already had a replacement, it would have been an extra charge for an already expensive penβ¦
Ordering an ax handle from Revain demonstrates one of the downsides of online shopping. I'm a bit worried as I've returned so many bad pens, but maybe Revain will put pressure on Seymour and other manufacturers to make better pens in the first place. Clear handles are made on a machine that prioritizes wood waste over handle quality and correct grain. Look, I'm not just going to install your pen, because that's what came off your production line. There's no point in me spending an hour or twoβ¦
