Laggard Networking Products

I bought 4 of these to replace similar ones from Netgear. I have to admit I had high hopes for the units. When I first got them it took a few tries to get everything working properly, but when I did they seemed fine. This was the first three weeks of use. Since then they have been working sporadically. I know the problem is device related because I have another way to access my cable modem and my internet speed is fast enough (around 200 Mbps) to provide a good experience. At the moment I findโ€ฆ

Not as fast as TP-Link AV2000 in my house

Tested on TP-Link AV2000 which I've been using for three years but wanted to see if G.hn worked better than the AV2000 spec in my house. Unfortunately it delivers about 50Mbps compared to 180Mbps with the AV2000 from my ground floor to my upper floor. I have used fast.com and speedtest.net as network speed testers in my house with 400Mbps input and 20Mbps input. Your home can of course be different.

  • Requires socket

We have made two unsuccessful attempts to improve the operating system. different devices as WIFI SOURCE. The PASSWORD sign printed on the back of the device does not allow access to the DEVOLO network. We tried all uppercase with hyphens between alpha groups, then lowercase, and finally no hyphens. None of these attempts allowed access to the network. The end result is that after powering on, the system connects and selects the Wi-Fi network, but no one can log in because the passcode doesn'tโ€ฆ

Not worth the money: Doesn't work as advertised

This item is significantly more expensive than other powerline adapters and offers great speed. I know you shouldn't expect what it says on the box, especially from a powerline adapter, but wow compared to other powerline adapters I've had in the past, the price totally outweighs the performance. My download speed was below 15MB/s and at the very bottom I connected directly to my router at 800MB/s. Compared to the PLP2000 I had previously, which was $100 less and had a download speed of 50โ€ฆ

Works - But not at advertised speeds

I live in a large apartment - and there is NO built-in ethernet cabling. So while my living room has most of the computing gear, the living room has its fair share - TV, Apple TV, TiVo, XBox, etc. Wi-Fi usage can be intermittent, so I wanted something "wired". I have tried several products, the good news is this item works! Installation was a little less easy than shown, but once I downloaded the appropriate app and placed everything in the right place, everything went smoothly. Compared to the

Doesn't quite fit US budget

Big problem with it. Powerline just doesn't work in the average American home. It works with difficulty with switches and not at all with panels. So if the outlets you want to use aren't on the same circuit, it won't work properly or at all. Unfortunately, in almost every home built in the last 40 years, there are very likely to be outlets in different rooms on different circuits, and there doesn't seem to be much point in using powerline to extend your network in the same room. I'd really like

Reliable power solution but Wi-Fi functionality useless

I used another power solution from HomePlug AV and g.nh. I am currently using a different brand g.nh device at home. I was curious if using this devolo Magic 2 WiFi Next would extend my WiFi coverage. It's been a bit disappointing so far. Here is an overview. What I like about this product: - Reliable network with reasonably low ping latency. My son plays some kind of esports game and is very sensitive to network latency. This powerline solution definitely lives up to its expectations: - Goodโ€ฆ

Great solution when you have no other way to connect

The packaging of the product is fantastic and the quality of the product is excellent. The setup and troubleshooting instructions are very clear. This is the third powerline/wifi adapter product I've tried in my current home and while my electrical setup and transmitter spacing recommendations are correct, these powerline adapters still perform very poorly in my situation. This powerline adapter in particular had two major issues that I'd like to point out compared to the other twoโ€ฆ

Cons
  • Some small things

Up front, it should be noted that PowerLine and mesh networks are significantly inferior to running Cat5/6 cables through the home. The assumption when looking at this point is that using Ethernet isn't really an option you want to explore. The idea behind the Devolo Magic 2 WiFi Next Kit is that you get a G.hn PowerLine adapter to place next to your router and two PowerLine/WAP combo adapters to place on the edges of your home . Importantly, for those unfamiliar with the PowerLine networkโ€ฆ
