Description of ๐ช Makita 6408: Powerful 4.9 Amp 8 Inch Drill for Superior Performance
Powerful 4.9 AMP motor. Variable speed (0-2,500 RPM) for drilling in a wide variety of materials. Keyless chuck for fast and easy bit installation and removal. Large trigger switch for comfortable operation. Low decibel rating (79dB) for quieter operation.
Drill for low-intensity work. That is, he drilled a hole - he went, ate, slept, then drilled further. And all because the body of the drill is very hot. There is a burning smell coming from the ventilation. Burning a completely new drill is not included in my plans, it is not cheap. These conditions must be observed - we work for 1 minute, we cool down for half an hour. Had a better opinion of the Makita. Although this is my first Makita)). She is also the last one.
This drill can only be used at home, with frequent and long smoke breaks. If I'd known before, I wouldn't have taken it. But, damn it, at least the manufacturers wrote in the instructions that it is not intended for constant loads for more than 3 minutes. Burned out after two months when drilling holes in wooden blanks with a thickness of 70 mm (with the shutdown button latch on). Before that, I tried to use it as a screwdriver (when screwing screws into the floor), nothing happened, too lowโฆ
Pros
buttons like nothing.
Cons
Not suitable for continuous loads for more than 2 minutes. Burned down.
It's hard to understand why this feature is needed at all. And yes, I would never buy it myself. A gift, damn it, from my father-in-law, damn it, so that he is healthy.
The speed is one, there is no power, the drill is a maximum of 10, which is understandable with such an engine. Trying to drill steel - 6th! It is heated so that it seems to melt. Wood thin drills - its maximum!
And the most disgusting thing is that the father-in-law gave the type for repairs in the country. And he obviouslyโฆ
Drill like a drill. I'm happy with her! It drills and that's it, I didn't count how many holes I made in steel and wood. Several thousand for sure. Used both for holes 2-3 mm, and for 16 mm (door locks). In the reviews they write about a nightmarish overheating, I did not notice this. Although when inserting locks, I would have noticed if this overheating was. I bought it from my hands - for 2022 :) Therefore, how much she worked before me is not known.
Pros
Has no percussion mechanism. Searched specially without it.
I have used this or previous versions of this drill bit in my workshop for over 20 years. I have a very good balance, fits my hand well and transfers the drive's weight directly to the shaft, which allows me to drive 3" screws to pull very heavy cabinets to the wall. When you need to support the weight of a cabinet and turn a screw at the same time, you'll appreciate a well-balanced, high-performance driver that's up to the task. I wouldn't buy anything else.
Pros
Variable speed (0-2500 RPM) to drill a wide range of materials
If you use it for its intended purpose. 5 stars all day. This is a drill, not a screwdriver. Threading screws into tight pilot holes gets a bit tricky as they have too much power and no grip so you can't adjust them much. by drilling pilot holes and then using my battery powered Hitachi to drive in the screws. Switching between them will make the work 3 or 4 times shorter. That being said, if you don't have a separate driver, you can certainly tighten the screws. With this guy you have to beโฆ
I have had a copy of this drill for a number of years and it has held up well. I didn't actually ask it to do heavy remodeling or contractor-level work, but it holds up *much* better than the Craftsman. The noise from bearings and gears is about the same as new. (while Artisan clearly irritates its camps). When tightening a lot of screws (10, not 100) the exhaust air gets noticeably hot, so much so that I let it cool naturally. However, it was good enough that I bought my dad a pair forโฆ
