tame the beast . .

The Marineland Penguin 350 Powerful Filter is a damn good cooktop, but out of the box it's not a filter for your bedroom aquarium. However, if you like a loud waterfall to lull you to sleep; In its original configuration, the Penguin 350 is a five-star performer. Taming this beast is very easy once you recognize the source of the filter volume - a flow rate of 350 gallons per hour. The ability to regulate the flow solves the problem of a noisy waterfall. Marineland builds this feature into…

This is a very durable filter.

I originally bought this for a Betta aquarium but it was a disaster. Blow the poor fish like he was "Twister" in that movie. But I'm a crazy fisherman who has a few fish tanks so it must have been used somewhere. I use it now in my 10 gallon quarantine tank. I stuff it with my own filter thread and ceramic rings. The container is large, so I put in two layers of thread and a large number of bio rings. I don't use the bio bike. It spins too smooth, but maybe that's because I have too much media…

Pros
  • COMPATIBILITY: For use with Marineland Rite size filter cartridges (see separate filter for size recommendations).
Cons
  • Some imperfections

DO NOT use this filter! (or other Marineland HOB filters)!

So I bought a Penguin 350 from a local store a few months ago. Worked well for 3 months. Then it started to get LOUD! We speak very loudly. I disassembled it twice and tried to clean it to make it run smooth again (it wasn't even dirty). That does not work. Super loud rattles and noises all the time (which could be heard from a few rooms)! I saw online that a new wheel costs about $20 or so. I also saw that the Penguin 200 was around $20 back then. So I decided on a Penguin 200. I have plenty…

Excellent filtration system for all aquariums

I used to work as a marine biologist for a large government aquarium. Marineland Biopumps have always been around. I've used them on both salt and fresh water tanks from 10 to 200 gallons. Everything worked flawlessly and I will continue to use them as both my primary and secondary system. They are vastly superior to anything other than canister systems BUT in some ways better than canister filters due to ease of maintenance. I will pick 3-4 of these at once in one system on any given day…
