Description of MICHELIN X-Ice Snow SUV 225/60 R17 103T winter
Michelin X-ICE SNOW - the ultimate winter tire The Michelin X-ICE SNOW series friction tires replace the popular studless tires of the previous generation, the X-Ice Xi3. This model was announced for the winter season 2020/2021 and is one of the latest developments of the French tire corporation. The first samples of these tires were successfully tested at the Finnish Test World, where the model was compared with the closest competitors from Continental, Nokian and other manufacturers. In a comparative test, not only new X Ice Snow tires were tested, but also two sets of worn ones: with a mileage of 10 thousand km and with a 4 mm tread remaining. This model received the best marks in most tests, and even tires with wear took prizes.
Model Features When modeling the running surface of the Michelin X Ice Snow friction tire, engineers partly used the design of the previous Xi3 tire. The pattern of the base model has been significantly redesigned: In the X-ICE SNOW tire, the central ribs consist of separated macroblocks, while in the previous model the blocks were connected by narrow rubber bridges.
For better drainage of water and snow porridge, engineers increased the width of the interblock drainage grooves, and also modified their geometric shape. This made it possible to improve the driving performance of tires on wet surfaces.
This model uses tread blocks with a more complex geometry. The number of sharp edges and cutting edges has increased significantly, at the same time, the traction and grip properties of the tires have also improved.
X Ice Snow tires were equipped with two types of sipes at once. On the blocks of the central ribs there are curvilinear slots, while in the shoulder areas there are straight lamellas. Internal locks provided in their 3-dimensional structure significantly limit the mobility of the cutting edges, thereby reducing the deformation of the macroblocks during acceleration and deceleration.
Flex-Ice compoundThe winter tires of this series use a unique rubber compound with a high content of silica. The use of Flex-Ice technology made it possible to significantly improve the tenacity of tires on ice and snow. The grip properties of the wheels are maintained at an optimal level even at critical sub-zero temperatures. This makes the Michelin X-ICE SNOW tires the most suitable for the harsh Scandinavian climate.
