Great gigabit router

This thing is a beast! I saturate my gigabit connection simultaneously in both directions with two PCs and the load on the router is only 25-30%. This router will serve me well for years to come while WPA3 and 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) are still in the pipeline. I wonder if Mikrotik will be able to release a software update that will enable WPA3 in the far future? Unfortunately, the RB4011 contains an inferior switch chip (RTL8367) than its RB3011 predecessor (QCA8337). If you don't need to do crazy…

Pros
  • This is awesome
Cons
  • Expandable

This router is not for the faint of heart. This is not a standard plug and play device. You'll need to go to the MikroTik website, use their wiki pages, and become familiar with RouterOS to set this thing up properly. If you're an IT pro and you know about networks, you won't have any trouble setting it up. This is a fully managed 10-port switch with PoE on port #10. It has an SFP slot if you want to add a module for an extra Gigabit RJ45 connection or fiber optic connection. Wireless…

Get ready to explore RouterOS

This is the third MikroTik product I have purchased. Like all of them, it's highly customizable and very powerful. RouterOS can get the job done, but you'll have to take the time to learn its interface. Many configuration options are in non-obvious menus. That being said I have a completely separate guest network with wifi hotspots for 2.4 and 5 and even a gigabit port on a network isolated from everything else. The two main issues I have (which makes it 4 stars instead of 5): as follows…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Socket required

There is a lot to say about this router but I will be as brief as possible. provide an easy setup method for new users. The problem will be that if you need to change settings or open a port, it will be difficult for you as a beginner to make changes. The concepts are the same as a home router, just a very different experience than what most home users are used to. It's also feature-packed and highly customizable. Among other things, I use it for Open VPN to allow access to the network I use…
