Defective. My voltage regulator was overcharged and I replaced it with this one, but my alternator then wouldn't charge at all. I went to my local parts store and bought a generic one and everything works great now. I do not recommend this.

Much better price than I could find elsewhere. Direct replacement for older electromechanical components in older Ford vehicles. I've found other regulators cheaper, but I've learned to trust the Motorcraft name for my beloved '65.

Our voltage was everywhere UNTIL we replaced this regulator. Such a simple device [not working properly] can damage the car, overcharge the battery, damage other electronic components, etc. Check the voltage across the battery [various RPMs] for consistency, ours is about 13.8 volts.

If you have a classic Ford, don't waste your money on Autolite replicas. Buy this one and save yourself the headache. The unit works great and my '68 Cougar hasn't YET got the charge light on. I also use this device on my 79 T-Bird and have no complaints. Remember to disconnect the battery before installation.

Excellent product. Far superior to the original mechanical unit. Replaced all other charging system parts (battery, alternator, alternator harness, etc.) except this one. Should have started here. It went from 12.73 volts with the engine and headlights to 14.89. Amazing difference. No more dead battery! This device is available at select Mustang stores for more than double the price.

Bought because I need genuine parts for my old truck - I'm trying to stay away from generics. Well, TWO of them in a row broke right out of the box. And another failed in less than a day. My wiring is good, the alternator is fully functional. So I bought a cheap universal from my local parts store - works great. Motorcycle Parts - now made in China. I opened it up and found a cheaply made circuit board with no protection, inside which was an almost completely empty metal case.

This electronic unit replaces all previous controls, including the mechanical ones. However, make sure all your wires are connected to the controller, or make a wiring diagram of your car yourself and attach the wiring to the outlet. I also purchased a Standard Motors Products HP3880 regulator socket pre-wired with the correct color coded wires that connect to your vehicle's wiring harness with butt connectors.
