MTI 20-441-WT: Reliable 12V White Surface Mount LP Gas Detector Review

Purchased from Revain on June 4, 2016, manufactured on March 10, 2016 END of LIFE flashes today. For the price it should last more than 11 months. After reading other reviews there is no point in contacting the company. upset. I wish I could give 1/2 stars. ^^^^UPDATE. On 9/5/17 called the company saying they would send a replacement. If they do, my rating will change.

This was an exact replacement for our original propane detector so installation was easy! period, but lasted eight years) and had red and green flashing lights and an intermittent beeping, indicating that the detector's life had ended. Pretty important feature!

I am giving 4 stars because it requires flush screws for assembly, but these screws are not included. In other words, you must find your own screws to mount the alarm AND those screws must be flush or you will not be able to mount the alarm to the bracket. The mind is incomprehensible. Everything else in it works great. Tested and works fine. Now all you have to do is find the screws.

I bought this to replace an old RV detector that was starting to {ahem} "misbehave". I had a simple setup: (1) remove the old device from the wall mount, (2) remove the cable connector caps, (3) attach the new detector, and (4) mount the new device on the old wall mount. NOTE: The wiring on this unit is short contact so you will likely need wire strippers, especially if your RV uses electrical tape instead of wire connector caps.

We couldn't figure out why our detector was tripping every few hours when we weren't using the stove or gas in our RV. We checked the battery in our RV and it was fine. (A low or dead battery will cause the detector to alarm as it operates on a 12 volt system). Easy to install in my RV with existing 12V wiring under the bed. This device seems to be draining my batteries. I have well maintained and only a few years old 450Ah batteries powered by a 200 watt solar panel and PWM charge controller. Every morning my batteries go down to about 70% and the only thing plugged into it is an LPG detector which is hardwired and works all the time. This is my second sensor that I have replaced since I got my real RV. They say change every 5 years, the last one started beeping after 5 years with a bug on the right side. The first might have been at an RV park because it only lasted 3+ years. I am very happy with it.
